i prefer albums over a mixtape anyday... but i would like mixtapes if they actually put the time to make the sound quality better. AND.....didn't use the same concept of the original song. I hate when they just bite the whole song. I at least try to come up with a completely different topic.

if it's a mainstream artist ill fuck with there mixtape before there album cause they albums be tuna half the time. Industry artist really have no say so on what songs go on there albums but have all the say so on there mixtapes so i would rather buy there mixtapes... as far as underground goes I would rather buy the album

Albums of course, I mean nowadays u got mixtape rappers and I dont think they have a good career or ever will have....most mixtape rappers are a bunch of lames and arent creative enough to make their own album.

However on mixtapes, rappers on the same ol overrated beats of singles & even pop beats I always avoid cuz that shit has long long been played the fuck out to me; they irritated me so bad got so fuckin tired of the same beats that I completely stopped bumpin mixtapes for good!!!......

The whole mixtape thing has been played out 4 5-7 years now. Niggas can't make great albums so they use them shits as an excuse and people fall for it.

That all city was cool too, not sure if it counts as a mixtape but still tight.

Also Lil wayne can still put out a good mixtape. Like other guy said, if the artist is mainstream I'll mess with the mixtape, go check out G-units/50 cents early mixtapes those were tight. I will say that I absolutely cannot stand when they use mainstream rap/pop beats and make nearly no changes and just rap over it, those I don't even like considering mixtapes.

I'm not sayin that there aren't good/great mixtapes out there, it's just that where it was once a new wave now it's a fad in the place of fresh material. You hear these artists complanin that people don't buy records anymore, well maybe it's because these muthafuckas keep puttin out bullshit jerkin people 4 that hard earned 15-20 dollars and the people respond by dowloading that song or songs they really like. They're wonderin how their gonna save the industry? In the words of Eric B & Rakim here's how you do it: Since we talkin over this def beat I wanna hear some of them def rhymes ya knowm'sayin? And together we can get paid in full.
