SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- A group of thieves managed to steal $26,000 worth of Apple laptop computers from a New Jersey Best Buy store Wednesday in what police are calling a Hollywood-style heist.
According to South Brunswick Police Sgt. James Ryan, the thieves climbed a gas pipe on the side of the Best Buy located on Route 1, and used some type of suction to lift a 3-foot-by-3-foot hole in the roof.
Ryan says the suspects apparently then channeled Tom Cruise's character in the 1997 thriller "Mission: Impossible," when they lowered themselves 16 feet inside the store and evaded motion sensors by hovering over the ground.
The thieves then bagged 20 Apple notebooks and left the retail store the same way they entered, all while staying undetected.
The suspects used banners in the store to block themselves from security cameras, Ryan said.
Employees discovered the break-in when they saw debris on the floor and a hole in the roof on Wednesday.
