Mehserle May Have Borrowed Taser Before Shooting
(CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
In a new development in the BART shooting case, it's reported that former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle may have borrowed a taser just a few hours before the fatal shooting of Oscar Grant.
Chronicle reporter Demian Bulwa told KCBS this revelation could prove to be crucial evidence for Mehserle's defense team.
Mehserle's defense team contends the former police officer grabbed his pistol, instead of his taser, during that chaotic New Year's Day morning at the Oakland BART station.
"Mehserle's attorneys may argue that this contributed to his confusion, which they suggest is what happened that caused the shooting," Bulwa said.
Mehserle faces first degree murder charges for the fatal shooting at Oakland's Fruitvale Station.
His trial is expected to get underway in Los Angeles, later this year.
