I just think that we're getting older. Shit ain't never gone be like it used to. Like the first time you heard NWA, PE, KRS, Snoop, Cube. Those days are gone. I haven't bought music like I used to in 9-10 years. True though that mainstream and underground have fell way off though. There's some good groups and folks out there doing their thing, but the days of everybody selling major are over and it ain't coming back

This is 2010, Rappers wont sell even 500k. Eminem will do that for sure, but he might be the only one besides Jay-Z to do that nowadayz. Even Drake isnt even at 500k yet and he has like 3 radio singles, but he is considered pop. Like I said though, no rappers is selling that much in 2010. Not just that but when was the last time you even heard RAP on the radio? Its all pop now.

i personally feel that a lot of music i hear lately sounds old or sounds the same as the other artists. i dont know if rap necessarily needs a facelift but it defintely needs a makeover.

Last Cali artists to go GOLD are:

E-40 with Ghetto Report Card 4 years ago on the strength of two singles.
Ice Cube with Laugh Now, Cry Later 4 years ago on the strength that hes Ice Cube.
Snoop Dogg with Blue Carpet Treatment in 2007. Ego Trippin and Malice did almost 400K each, just shy of GOLD.

Bootlegging, File sharing, Terrible Music, Lack of originality, Economic downturns and plenty of other factors have contributed to our current "situation". However, don't forget, people used to give you $20 bucks for a CD alot easier when there were less films, no Comcast On Demand, cheap amusement park tickets and other entertainment that we could get for much more than a CD.

i think downloading hurt it

i used to buy cd's and then they would be terrible but you couldnt return them because they were opened....i think alot of people got sick of that....i'll say it....i download pretty much everything i would be unsure about first and then if it meets my standards i will go and buy a hard copy.....but the music in general has changed everything is poppy and im not ok with that....i blame the industry for over saturating the market with pop and other bullshit creating this epidemic of shit that has been taking over for years

Don't blame them for that alone. Blame them for making that even possible in the first place. As soon as rap started making real money it was only a matter of time that these major record companies would come an exploit it for all they can and run it into the ground. Oh and downloading truly hurt it too.
