i dont know. what i do know is that the Dodgers all but gave him the job last spring and he played so miserably that Alex Cora beat him out for the job.

he will probly get another shot again if the dodgers dont somehow get Nomar Garciaparra, but if like you said, if the manager doesnt like him he probly wont play.

i dont think that that is the case though and here is why, he is highly thought of as a prospect and if they werent going to give him a chance they would be better served trading him for another player.

i am in Northern California. but i know a former Dodger scout (who just retired a couple years ago) from my days at Merced JC who gives me some info when i see him.

yup, i think he is also. but if the Dodgers get Garciaparra Thurston will have no chance in LA because they will just move Izturiz over to 2b from SS.

if Garciaparra comes to LA look for the Dodgers to move Thurston to another team.

Q: kevin from boston, ma asks:
What are your opinions of Joe Thurston? Is there a chance that he becomes a produtive major league player, or is the bloom off that rose?

A: Josh Boyd: There is still a chance he becomes a productive player, maybe in the Mark McLemore mold more than the all-star type role people may have been expecting a year ago. There are a lot of mixed opinions on Thurston in the scouting community. He has an unorthodox hitting approach that has always worked for him, but he was overmatched last spring because he dives into the plate and isn't very selective, adjustments he'll need to make.
