Francis' meeting with Magic triggers trade

HOUSTON -- Tracy McGrady is leaving his hometown team for Houston in a blockbuster trade that sends Steve Francis to the Orlando Magic and gives the Rockets one of the NBA's most intriguing duos.

The deal, which had been in the works for nearly two weeks, also sent forward Juwan Howard and guards Tyronn Lue and Reece Gaines to the Rockets. The Magic will acquire guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Kelvin Cato.

"I just knew it was going to take time," McGrady told ESPN Tuesday night. "I'm happy and it's time to move on."

The trade was finalized after Francis' meeting with Magic general manager John Weisbrod and other team officials in Orlando on Tuesday.

McGrady, a two-time NBA scoring champion, now joins 7-foot-5 Yao Ming to form a combination that potentially could be as dominant as the Los Angeles Lakers' three-time title twosome of Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.

"I sure hope so," McGrady said in the ESPN interview. "I can't predict the future, but it definitely would be nice. The ultimate goal is to win a championship for the Houston Rockets."

And with the Lakers splintering apart since coming up short in the NBA Finals, Houston immediately looks like a serious championship contender in the Western Conference next season.

Trade Francis and a few others for Shaq!!! Shaq, Howard, Nelson would be dope!!!! Too bad I think Shaqs gonna get injured in the next year or 2.

I hope to see Steve at SG but then again they have Mobley so idk. Cato would be the center and idk if Hill is ever gonna play again LOL.

Let me start off by sayin' Magic ain't gonna be shit. Francis and Mobley made it to da playoffs once out of they four years togetha, so what makes yall think its gonna be any different in Orlando?

Grant Hill is done fa good basically.

Rockets ain't gonna be much of shit eitha. They got Mark Jackson at point, but his old ass can't play 40 minutes a game, so they basically have no PG.

I read tha rockets are lookin at Brent Barry to run tha point that would be coo for mcgrady cause Barry can dish em out! but the rockets still need some depth....I'm sure theyll sign a couple guys....wouldnt rafer alston be a good fit in Houston????

ewing a bitch? you trippin hard, he was basically one of the only muh-fuckas that could fuck with shaq back in the day, and wit him coaching yao, rockets is gonna be nice this year, i think they make it to the western conference finals, but that about it as for orlando, give them 2 or 3 years

Yea Ewing was a bitch and still is. If u go back and look at his career, he stayed gettin' dunked on by muthafuckaz a foot shorta than him. And he neva won a championship, so fuck his career. He was basically dead weight to me, when he played.

dont hate man, really tho, that's why he's going to the hall of fame, is top 50 player's to play the game, i could care less if he pays for pussy he put on a lot of good show's when he wasnt missing easy shots, but it's a lot of people that have off nights and he wasnt always getting dunked on, and hella muh-fuckas that needed to improve shit in they game and it's hella heads that get dunked on by people a foot smaller then them and people who are great that got dunked on by people who were good but not on they level and even tho i like ewing, i gotta admit....that sig is fucking sick lol i wanna get the one were john starks dunks on jordan and horace grant
