According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao bout is close to a done deal for March 13, 2010. Mayweather has agreed to the fight terms and Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, is making a trip to Manila, Philippines, to finalize the fight with Manny.

The promoters wanted the fight take place on May 1, but Pacquiao threw a wrench in those plans when announced a political campaign run in the Philippines. He filed the paperwork on Tuesday. That left two options for the promoters, push the fight up to March 13, or push it back to September. If they would have pushed it back to September, both fighters were going to take interim-bouts. Per trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's side was considering a move to 154 to face Top Rank promoted Yuri Foreman for the WBA title. Mayweather was being rumored for a bout with Matthew Hatton in the UK.

Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Las Vegas' MGM Grand and the New Orleans Superdome are the three main venues in the running to host the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

Pacquiao WILL say yes to a March 13th fight, although a May 1st fight would still be better for the hype. Either way let's do it!

I wouldn't mind either date, but that shit better not be in no weak ass Cowboys Stadium.

I don't know anyone who would go to Texas to watch that fight. Keep that shit in the Entertainment Capital of The World.

Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada.

I would give Steve Wynn the OK to build that 30,000 seat outdoor arena, and have the entire strip filled with people.

Besides, the fighters would look like amoeba from the nosebleeds of the Cowboys' stadium. Plus, when you have a fight on The Strip, the entire city of Las Vegas wins....not just one venue.

I really wanted the May date since Vegas is much more crackin during the warm season.

Yeah, I don't see this fight happening in March especially since Pac-Man has a busted ear drum. Let the man heal so he doesn't have any excuses for losing to Mayweather. After Mayweather whoops on him all we're going to hear is "Pacman didn't fully recover from the Cotto fight" and excuses like that. Shoot for May so money May can tax him without the excuses.

This fight will either happen in March or late in the year like September, since Manny is running for office starting in April I believe.

I was REALLY hoping for the original plan of May 1st since that's my b-day, but fuckin manny & politics...I wish he would just wait until he retires before doing shit like that but whatever, his life.

I agree, that's why Mayweather was questioning does he really want to fight because Mayweather didn't hear him say he wanted to fight him. Everyone is wanting Manny to fight but does Manny actually want to fight?

Pacquiao-Mayweather is On: Manny Signs The Deal!

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

The smile across his face and the twinkle in his eye gave Top Rank promoter Bob Arum away no matter how much he tried to be non-committal about a March 13 multi-million dollar fight for the ages between reigning pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and the man who previously sat on the throne, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

In a lengthy conversation with BoxingScene.com, insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports along with Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN, shortly after his arrival early Thursday morning, Arum said the Mayweather camp through Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had agreed to the terms of the fight but wanted it to take place on March 13. Arum told us then he had to get Pacquiao to sign-off on the date otherwise it would be bust and the fight may never happen.

Arum met with Pacquiao at the New World hotel in Makati City Friday in the presence of only one other person – Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz. Arum said “I had a meeting this morning and we went over all the points and now I have to go back to the United States and sit with the Mayweather people and finalize some very minor aspects and then we’ll have an announcement sometime next week.

Arum admitted “I am very excited and it was a good meeting and Michael (Koncz) was very constructive in the meeting, Manny was very alert and showed a tremendous knowledge of what he was doing and his problems of running for office and the March 13 date solves those to some extent.”

Arum took the opportunity to emphasize that the Mayweather battle is “such an important fight for the Philippines that I just hope that Manny will be focused. I think that his congressional opponent (Roy Chiongbian) would do everyone a service including the great country of the Philippines by withdrawing from the race and take Manny’s mind off politics so he can concentrate on the fight." However, Arum said “that’s just my opinion. I’m not a Filipino and I can’t tell people politically what they should or should not do.”

We understand that the official announcement would be made on Tuesday, December 8 to coincide with Arum’s 78th birthday.

He told us that on Thursday, December 10 both he, Schaefer and HBO Sports Ross Greenberg would meet with Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys football team and the spanking, new state –of-the art $1.5 billion stadium to discuss their bid to stage the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in Texas although the MGM Grand Garden Arena is also in strong contention to host the blockbuster showdown that has generated incredible interest around the world.

Arum said Pacquiao would train for two months possibly in Baguio City where he initially trained for the “Fire Power” showdown with WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto before continuing his preparation at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card gym. He said Roach had no problem having the first part of Pacquiao’s buildup in Baguio.

Arum said there were tremendous possibilities for the pay-per-view market for the fight with some estimates going wild at 5 million. However, he said Greenberg believes the Pacquiao-Mayweather war could do around 3 million homes to become the biggest in history, surpassing the 2.5 million homes in the Mayweather- Oscar De La Hoya fight.

The astute promoter revealed that this time around England which didn’t carry the Pacquiao-Cotto fight on pay-per-view because of the David Haye – Nikolay Valuev heavyweight title fight has indicated they want Pacquiao-Mayweather as does the rest of Europe and Australia.

There was no mention of a revenue split but every conceivable indication is that it will wind up as an acceptable 50-50 split right down the middle and the eventual gross take of each fighter is likely to reach at least $20 million which in peso terms would mean almost a cool P1 billion when Pacquiao adds up his income from TV, pay-per-view and other ancillary rights in the Philippines.

Arum also disclosed that there would be no tax implications if Pacquiao trained in Los Angeles while the tax cut in Texas was the same as that of Las Vegas.

Mayweather Wants Pacquiao at 154? Wants 10oz Gloves?

By Mark Vester

As reported earlier by BoxingScene.com's Ronnie Nathanielsz, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao met with Top Rank's Bob Arum and signed off on a deal to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. on March 13, 2010. Arum told BoxingScene there would be some minor fine tuning of the contract terms but nothing that would stand in the way of fight going forward.

According to Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach, who spoke with Sky Sports, Mayweather is looking for 10oz gloves and a fight weight of 154-pounds. Pacquiao's side wants 8oz gloves and a weight limit of 147. Roach says the issues with the gloves and weight will be worked out. Roach will use WBA junior welterweight champ Amir Khan as Pacquiao's main sparring partner for the fight.

"We talked to Arum and he had the March date and May 1 available and Manny chose the earlier date because of the elections in the Phillipines, and I can't wait to get started," Roach told Sky Sports News. "It'll be the biggest fight of all time, the biggest pay-per-view event of all time and my main sparring partner will be Amir Khan."

"There's always negotiations, like he [Mayweather] wants 10oz gloves we want 8oz gloves, stuff like that, the weight he wants is 154lb, we want 147, so there's some issues but I think it can be solved. It's a tough fight because his style does give us difficulties, and we need to draft a plan for a new strategy. Yes, it's a tough fight but it's a fight Manny wants."

Haha.

Its official: Floyd Mayweather is a weenie! LOL...naw but...

I still wouldn't even call Manny a natural welterweight. He just isn't. Real welterweights cut weight to make 147. Manny natural walk around in between fight weight is closer to the welterweight limit.

147 should be the limit. Its fair for both fighters, though I would still say Floyd has the edge simply because he's been fighting at this weight since 06, and his body has adjusted accordingly.

Oh well...glad this fight is finally on its way. I'm gonna be pissed if this fight is anywhere but The Las Vegas Strip.
