I need a new 3.5" SATA hard drive for my iMac. I've read tons of reviews and they seem mixed. People have told me to stay away from Maxtor, but I read a test online that said they perform better than Seagate.

Any thoughts?

Fry's has a 320GB Maxtor on sale for $65 (reg. $110) and the Seagate 320GB is $110, but drives are always on sale at Fry's, so I'm not worried about that...

the chances of either harddrive failing is way smaller than the chances of either harddrive lasting longer than your computer in general meaning you'll get a new comp before you'll need to get a new of either of those harddrives

i like western digital personally if you want stable and quiet

seagates good for having like 750gb and shit

good point, although its a mac im sure it will last haha... but i get a new computer hella often so youre probably right!
computers last for years, even non macs. they just are obsolete in 2-3 years.

and i'm a fan of western digital also. they make great external hard drives and i havent bought a internal hard drive for a while becuase if i get a new computer i just hook up my external to the new one and dont have to worry about moving shit.

seagate and maxtor are the same shit now. They merged. Western Digital is koo, i had a 250gb from them that died on me tho. So its the same hardrive you are buying just different name on it.

All I gotta say is your best bet is to have another drive to back that one up. Even the best drives can fail on you and it's way cheaper to have a backup drive, and buy a new one if your main one fails, instead of having to send it off for data recovery.
