Great first fight, but I don't think this damn fight belongs on PPV. Solid undercard at least, but c'mon...boxing big wigs need to invest more into the future of the sport by airing more QUALITY fights, that aren't on PPV.

I have no problem with this being a PPV .. it's solid fights straight up and down. People seem to forget that JMM is STILL the man at LW and that everytime he steps into the ring at 135 he's putting lineage on the line ..

.. also let's not forget Jorge Linares who was once extremely hyped up is taking on Rocky Juarez on this card as well in what'll probably end up being Juarez' retirement fight.

I feel you Naner, but IMO, the long term benefit of having a solid card like this on regular TV, far outweighs the monetary value. The first fight was a classic, and this one has an even better undercard.

I just think that boxing needs to get the casual fans interested in guys other than the megastars, and this, to me would've been a perfect opportunity.

can't disagree there I'm always for "free" fights but there haven't been too many PPV's this year at all so it's not too bad.

Another sick card a week or so later (Aug 7th) which will be on regular HBO is Devon Alexander vs Andriy Kotelnik and Tavoris Cloud vs Glen Johnson.

I predict Cloud/Johnson will be an all out WAR and Devon will really show how talented he is by becoming the first person to stop Kotelnik. It's going to be in St. Louis too so I expect that place to be packed with an electric atmosphere.

I agree. I like boxing but do not follow it intensly, mainly because most fights are not televised and I do not know who a lot of these guys are. I know who the main eventers are but do not know who the rest of the card is. If they would have some type of weekly or monthly show to showcase all these undercard fighters, it would interest me a lot more when I see them on a PPV with some big names as the main event.

yeah the problem with boxing if you don't have hbo and/or showtime, it's hard to follow.

the only thing really that can help on a small level is Friday Night Fights. Typically, every friday on ESPN there are fights. These are almost always headlined with good/decent young up & comers, guys who may be on the verge of making it to the next level (like to HBO/Showtime status), and also guys who may be on a losing streak and trying to bounce back (example Zab Judah in two weeks).

It's almost like watching the minor leagues in baseball. You got young talent, and you also got some older guys trying to get back to where they once were.

I like to watch all of them because you get to see young guys coming up the ranks and you can follow their careers and watch them progress.

There is also Fox Sports Network that has similar type of cards and of course some of the spanish channels showcase a lot of mexican talent, etc.

But if you really want to follow the sport closely you really need to have at least HBO, or you can just stream the fights if you want.

Do you have a Web site that is good for streaming. I usually can find one but it sometimes takes 20+ mins and that for some fights of people I don't know is kind of silly. Yeah I don't have HBO or Showtime so I miss out on those. I will check out the Friday Night Fights though.

Thanks for the info. I have been watching the FNF the last couple of weeks now.I have it set to record every week now. Some good fights on though.

@naner, what do you know about Dmitry Pirog? You have any of his fights?
The only Pirog fight I've seen is when he blanked Jantuah. He doesn't seem to have your average eastern European style and his punch seemed good enough to where a guy as good as Jantuah didn't seem to want any part of it for the majority of the fight. I'm interested in this fight and don't think it's a guaranteed win for Jacobs.
