* = Dake becomes first wrestler in NCAA history irrespective of weight class to win three national titles in three different weight classes.

Dake kinda coasted/stalled for the last period, underwhelming. Taylor is a fucking monster, shows you how good Bubba really was to beat him last year. Hope he follows in Bubba's footsteps and gives MMA a try.

I watched a bit of this before I switched over to HBO. Was impressed by the all out rape by Taylor and Ruth looked pretty solid himself. I don't follow collegiate wrestling that hard unfortunately to know how good they or their opponents are coming into this though.

the shitty thing about collegiate wrestling is that usually the guys who win are so fucking good that the only thing that really builds the news is if they lose. That's why guys like Taylor can fucking slaughter rule someone, in the national championships... Think about that, he's the only guy who did that, and I think Hatchett was in the top 5. He put up enough points where they ended the fight. And it's "ho-hum Taylor wins again" lol.
But yeah, Taylor and Ruth destroyed the guys they faced. I'd heard Taylor and Dake were the favorites for the olympic team but Dake kinda pussed because the guy he was facing clawed his eyes and he just defended takedowns for the last 2 periods and took a point for stalling because the guy couldn't do anything.
The heavyweight match didn't show much. Rey's built like Monson but gassed after 2 minutes and Nelson just kept shrugging him off until Rey went for a takedown the last 20 seconds and slipped out and reversed into a sloppy single leg and got Rey to fall over and that was the match. Rey was the returning champ... Konrad would've thrown them both out of the circle at the same time
