why is this not an issue? in the past we have had people like jocelyn elders telling us we need to teach our kids how to masturbate and perform other sexual acts, we have classes such as art and music appreciation that are mandatory in every school, but not too many schools even offer proper education to kids in the real world area of such simple tasks as balancing a checkbook or filing for taxes. why is that??? ill continue later i just want to see where some peoples heads are at and how they feel.

They taught me how to Write checks and SHit when I was in Elementary school.

But there's so much Bullshit they teach in High school that doesn't apply to the real world. You don't really start pickin' that shit up until After high school and when you go to college

What they need is mandatory Civics Class in school. There is no reason that children should grow up to be adults in this country and not know anything from the branches of government and how and where and when to vote to the proper way to display the american flag. There are certain things, like those i mentioned that every good citizen should know and i think it should be a required course for all children.

As for that economics class, thats an ok idea, but we had those type of classes available to us in high school as electives too. That is something that i see more as an elective type thing, if people wanna be ignorant about their money that is ok.

But i think it is in the interest of the state to have a well educated and responsible civilian population. Alteast if the state in this country is truely interested in maintaining the ideals that it was supposidly founded upon.

good shit cold blooded i agree

but the key word is AVAILABLE!! they werent available at my school let alone MANDATORY FOR GRADUATION such as music art foreign language etc... its not just writing checks, its things like savings, investments, interest rates, avoiding debt and places like rent a centers and payday loan places, etc.... and as far as i know civics/social studies is taught from an early age and throughout school. ive never been to a school (and i went to well over 30) and not had it. but do you see what im saying? we have people wanting to show our kids how to jack off !!!! come on!!!

why not have parenting classes? We all need drivers-ed or at least had to study a drivers guide and take a test, to get a liscence. You even need a liscence to get married. But no liscence or classes are required to become a parent. Why can't the government support a program which requires parents to go to classes which perpare them for the future and lets them know what their getting into.

Did you hear about that mom that left her kids locked up in New York?

I agree though. The ciriculum in high school needs to change, as far as economic and civic classes go. My parents would of benifited.

I feel you on this 100%

Knowing the date of the boston tea party isn't going to help much in the real world, economics needs to be mandatory in all schools.
