KENNER, La. (AP) -- Ronnie Webber was playing with a gun while he acted out a rap song, and when the song said shoot he did. Webber, 27, told officers the gun in his hand discharged, fatally wounding Johnathan Beasley, 23, Thursday afternoon.
Webber called the police, who found Beasley in a rear bedroom with a gunshot wound to the chest, police department spokesman Capt. James Gallagher said. He was taken to the Charity Hospital trauma center at Elmwood Medical Center and pronounced dead.
Webber told investigators he had thought the gun - which belonged to Beasley - was unloaded but did not check to make sure, said Gallagher. Police booked him with negligent homicide.
