Man accused of trying to steal car is dead

The Associated Press

PUYALLUP — A man has died after being choked in a fight with two other men, including the owner of a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro who accused him of trying to steal the vintage muscle car, authorities said.

Edward Zanassi, 27, of Graham, died yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital, where he had been on life support since shortly after the fight early Wednesday morning, Pierce County sheriff's deputies said.

The 24-year-old car owner told deputies he was awakened by noises, saw Zanassi trying to steal the vehicle and got into a fight with him, Detective Jerry R. Bates said.

The owner's roommate joined the struggle, Zanassi bit the owner's fingers and the roommate forced Zanassi to let go by choking him, Bates said. Zanassi then collapsed and never regained consciousness before he died.

Neither the owner nor the roommate was arrested, and Bates says prosecutors were reviewing the case to determine whether to file charges.

You think they should be charged with a crime? They didn't go into more detail in the story. The news (I believe said) the carjacker was choked with a chain and after they were done beating him they went into a coma. I saw the car on tv, if I had it I'd probably beat his ass pretty bad too for trying to steal my car.

Well we can all agree on the guy SHOULDA GOT FUCKED UP....someone tried to steeal my car once and i almost caught them....i still think what woulda happen to those fools..

Anyway, i think this can bem compared to a cops situation. They usually have authority to use force, but is deasdly force necessary?

well if they r threatening ur life it is,....im not sure if the guy;s life was theatened....maybe he just went off the on the carjacker...in that case...he did go too far..

I saw this on the news a few days ago before the guy died.

It’s hard to say with the little details provided. If the thief attacked the owner, and the owner and his roommate were acting in self defense, then the killing would be justified. But, my gut feeling is that they caught dude trying to steel the car, rushed him and in the heat of the moment beat the shit out him. They probably went too far and probably should be punished, but again, this is just my gut feeling.

If I was with a homie and caught someone steeling my ride, I’d fuck him up too. But I’d like to think I’d have enough self-control to stop. And that is my honest opinion.

Its never easy to judge whether someones death is justified, its just unfortunate he had to do some stupid shit and put himself in the position to get killed.

I don't think he should get a murder charge but definitely get charged for manslaughter, both of them. Although there really is very little to go on due to the lenght of the article posted.
