I'm thinking of trying my hand at making some beats at home just for fun. What are some beginner's software and tools I would need to get started? I'm not trying to become Rick Rock or Studio Ton overnight. LOL This is more like trying something new in my spare time. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

if you have a Sony Playstation you can make beats on that. They have this game called MTV MUSIC GENERATOR which allows you to make beats on the PS. PlayStation 2 also has MTV Music Generator...and they even make one the computer.

yes the generator is a powerful learning tool...I still use mine from time to time...my peeps got the other generators and while the quality may be a little better on 2 & 3...I still prefer #1...after you start making good music on there quality becomes a concern..so after you get comfortable making your own shit get a keyboard or a drum machine...

do you funk with the generator???

aint nothing wrong with software but it aint for everyone, you may get frustrated wanting to twist some knobs and shit instead of clicking a mouse.I would go to different guitar centers,I seen a yamaha rs7000 for 300 I had bought one a few yrs back for 1500 (I later got rid of it) its a machine, that does it all sampling, sequence, drum machine, keyboard with module it has agrip of knobs effects etc and is as deep as you wanna get.I seen some emu mo phatt drum machines but you cant sample wich may be fine with you, or maybe a roland sp303 there small but a good starter kit, If you like it then you can always sell and get something better. My kit right now is an akai mpc 3000, my keyboard I use is a roland jp8000, and I have a motif rack and a yamaha tx81z I use for a talkbox,Its strictly a hobby for me, everytime I get in a financial bind I look at my equipment like I could pawn it for a loan----fuck that I would lose my mind without my mpc and keyboard

Don't be scared off by anyone who says FL is gay. There's better programs out there but there's nothing wrong with FL. go to www.flstudio.com and download a demo version for free. Reason is cool but it's harder to use and it costs $450. If you're just fuckin around, you can score FL for like $50-$150 depending on the version u get.
FL is good to start out with but you need to get some better sounds the sounds that come with it are gay.

I have used FL 4 a Year 1/2 and i got Reason now and Reason is the shit.

But FL works good
