“Soon to be Grammy nominee.” Mac Dre arrogantly boasts in one of his songs off his newest album “Thizzelle Washington”. After a disappointing compilation release, Andre Hicks hopes to garner more success with his latest album featuring guest appearances from Yukmouth, the Cutthoat Committee, Sleep Dank, Syko, and more. Let’s see how the laid back cleverly lined rapper holds his own on the album.

1)“Intro” featuring Yukmouth. Nothing too special on this track.

2)“Monday Thru Sunday”. Mid tempo beat. Production is superb and lyrics are better then average. Petty self explanatory track, Dre speaks on what he does everyday of the week. Nice track to start off the LP. 8/10

3)“Stuart Littles”. A more laid back beat compared to the first track. Beat is nothing to spectacular but the guitar adds more of a feel to the song. Lyrics are average. 7/10

4)“Help Me” featuring Ridah and Freako. Tight track with an excellent line up. Ridah absolutely tears this song up. Outstanding production and all three rappers bring heat. 9/10

5)“The Mac Named Dre”. Whoa! Best song on the album. Starts off with the infamous news broadcaster saying: “to rap fans he’s known as Mac Dre”. Production and lyrics are off the hook. Wherever you at make this knock!! 10/10

6)“Dam I Used To Know That” – Interlude

7)“Boss Tycoon” featuring Yukmouth. Another tight ass track. Didn’t know how both their styles would mesh together on this song but both proved to compliment each other. 10/10

8)“4 Myself” featuring Dubee and Devious. No matter how many times I listen to this song, I can’t seem to feel it. It has a unique feel to it and the beat is off the wall. 6/10

9)“C.U.T/ T.H.O.A.T” featuring the Cutthoat Committee. Everything about this song is dope as fuck. All bringing heated lyrics but, Dubee shines on this track. The funniest line has to go to P.S.D- “Groovy, like a black movie. With a nigga in it.” 10/10

10)“Han Solo” featuring Syko. One of my favorite songs off the album. Pretty mello beat. Syko handles the chorus. Both rappers don’t disappoint. 9/10

11)“Rap Life” featuring Sleep Dank. This song is weird and sort of off the wall. 4/10

12)“Thizzelle Dance” featuring Chuck Beez. Another weird song. I wonder what Dre was thinking when he was doin this song. Another track to skip. 3/10

13)“Soom Lam” – Interlude

14)“Big Breaded” featuring Luni Coleone. A straight mob heater! Luni Coleone brings the intensity on the track as he spits the first verse. Mac Dre comes equally as hard. Production is dope. 10/10

15)“Dollalalala Lostsa Paypa” featuring KC Bobcat & Sauce- Hmmm. The title track explains the track. I was bumpin in my ride and was pretty confused. Not feelin this song at all. More of a party song but I don’t know who’d bump this song. 2/10

16)“Miss You”. Above average track here. Nothin too spectacular. A good way to close the album. 8.5/10

The main complaint I had about this album has to be the sound quality, it didn’t seem to be done professionally. Nevertheless, I was diggin the album. I’ve heard a mixed reactions about this album but, I highly recommend it (if you can get over the sound quality). 8/10

I gotta disagree with your review. First of all, the sound quality was horrible. I dont know who mixed and mastered it, but they need a good ass kicking or need to pick up "Mixing and Mastering for Idiots" because that shit has NO THUMP whatsoever.

Lyrically, Mac Dre has continued on his downward spirial to mediocracy. He comes tight on a few songs, but most of those songs have features. With the exception of The Mac Named Dre, which I initially didn't like, I dont think there was one other solo on the album that I truly slapped. It upsets me that Mac Dre only comes his tightest when he has to raise his standards against other rappers, especially rappers who he started before but have risen above him anyways like the Ridah.

The beats on the album were very dissapointing. I give Mac Dre credit for experimenting but overall they DID NOT complement his style at all. Syko can make some tight slumps but I wasnt feeling this albums production at all. A number of tracks seemed to be pointed in a comical, E-Tard direction instead of Mac Dre's traditional laid-back saucy flow. I don't get it, if the music aint broke, don't fix it.

Overall I felt that this album LACKED the hunger and effort of all of the previous Mac Dre albums. Like "Its Not WHat You Say," "Tongue of a Pimp," "Rapper Gone Bad," and "Mac Dammit" it has a few tight songs but overall it isnt a slumpin CD. One thing that upsets me about Dre's post-2nd prison term releases is they seem to lack the flow and talent Dre had and rely on choruses or concepts (ie Everyone do the Thizzle Dance). I think Dre needs to take a minute and decide whether or not he really wants to stay in the business, because he almost ALWAYS comes tight when he's a feature but seems to do a half assed job on his solos. Even though this review will probably provoke the "haterism" response I still love Dre as an artist, but havent and wont buy another release until he puts something out worth buying. The days of Romp 1, Stupid Doo Doo Dumb, YBB, and even "Mac Dre is the name" look long over. Hopefully Dre's next release will bring his name back to respectability.

Overall-6/10

I'd give THIZELLE WASHINGTON a 3.5/5 (which would come out to 7/10 if you do the math)...

There are tracks here that I dig, like "Monday Thru Sunday", "Stuart Littles" (sounds like a blaxploitation flick song), "Help Me", "The Mac Named Dre" (which has the best beat on the whole CD, IMHO), "Boss Tycoon", "C.U.T.T.H.O.A.T." (I love when MD teams with PSD and DUBEE), the "Soom Lama" Skit (LOL!) and the hidden track after "Miss You" that MIAMI appears on (MIAMI is just a funny motherfucker--I can still hear him saying, "Little BROOOO-CEEEE!" on the bonus track from IT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAY...)

But yeah, the big problem is the same thing that's plagued MD's solo releases since RAPPER GONE BAD: inconsistent production (the beat on "Rap Life" does NOT fit at all with MD and SLEEP DANK's verses) and sometimes outright shitty engineering--I don't know if MD is just too high to know what he's puttin' out. I mean, I dig this CD in a sort-of "high/drunk-out-of my-mind" kind of way, but his earlier shit was better overall. Lyrically, MD can still bring it, but he needs more solid production and better engineering. You won't be wasting your $$$ if you get this, but you should probably buy it used. PEACE!

Id give it a 6.5 / 10 or so. Maybe a 7.

It's definitely Dre's worst CD besides Mac Dammit Man. It has some good songs on it and ill always be a Dre fan but as MaddDogg said it just doesnt have too many slumpers.

Mac Dre's been coming tighter when hes a FEATURE on another artists cd, and hes probably one of my favorite rappers when he IS featured because he always comes so hard. But hopefully his next solo CD is tighter.
