Just sit back and think about the impact this charismatic MC had on our lives. Many knew him personally and knew the type of person he was, but hundreds of thousands knew him through his music which touched each and every one of them in different ways. From his Young Black Brother days to his Back N Da Hood days (where he pioneered recording a whole album over the phone while incarcerated in the Fresno County jail) to his Stupid Doo Doo Dumb days... to his Ronald Dregan days, Andre Hicks served up and offered a refreshing and sometimes unusual brand of entertainment. You never knew what he was going to come up with. He was an entertainer's entertainer as he stayed working and stayed performing endlessly bouncing city to city and state to state.
He loved his fans as much or more than they adored him. After being released from prison, He strategically reclaimed his reign on independent underground hip hop with his wacky antics and party music and eventually created mass hysteria with the inception of his very own "Thizzle Dance." Never have a seen a crowd of dudes erkin' and jerkin' and wildin' out over a song as I had witnessed when Dre's "Thizzle Dance" blared out of the loudspeakers. You're used to seeing females dancing in circles amongst themselves, but when Dre was in the house the fellas came out in droves and enjoyed themselves as they fell into the trancelike state "Thizzle Dance" would leave them in. Dre wasn't just a LEGEND.... he is an ICON.

Random Thoughts from myself.....

RIP Dre....

just like 2pac, mac dre was a rapper that made you feel like he was your fuckin boy...like you really knew the guy. since i heard this shit, it's damn near like somebody i knew died. i keep having to remind myself of his friends and family that REALLY knew him, apart from his musical influence. if all of us are trippin off this, god knows how his real folks are doing. without a doubt, one of the most creative and original musicians my ears will ever have the pleasure of hearing...

"Life is short, you only live once and ain't no telling when you're leaving/So I'ma do it all, have a ball, while I'm still living and breathing/See I'm a philosopher, and my philosophy is this/Don't be no punk young homie, if it's worth it, take that risk/ANYTHING's Possible, but NOTHING's fa sho/Got to take advantage of all opportunities, and get that money YOU KNOW?? " - Mac Dre

I really wasnt up on dre until i launched 95LIVE.COM all theese listeners was all in my ear about it, and as this year progressed i really felt his music and he's one of my fav rappers too be, just the whole he does his shit... indy.... just do it.... its inspirational.... although i never met dre i feel he's part of me and what i do, taken from the fact that my STATION alone plays dre on the norm, before his death it becoems a big part of me..... shit..... this is just terrible. :hurt:

Its crazy too think about how i never got too meet him , this is really an insentive for the bay too unite and make connections.... this alone has made the bay area rapscene strong... and it will help us grow and push this bay movement foward.

I cant stop thinkin about how fucked up this is, it doesnt make sense..... well r.i.p too dre.

I didn't know Mac Dre personally but I got a few words I'd like to share about him. Mac Dre is the rapper who got me into hip hop in the first place and first introduced me to the proud bay area underground scene. I was riding with my boy and he just started bumpin' Too Hard for the Fuckin' Radio and I was like "damn! this shit is fuckin hot." Before I heard that the only hip hop I really knew of was the pop rap I heard on MTV that I'd be ashamed to bump. From him I learned of other great talent in the bay; Mac Mall, Dubee, Khayree, Young Lay, Andre Nickatina, E-40, B-Legit, Da Unda Dogg, Ray Luv, Too Short and a shitload others. It seemed like Mac Dre was always down to help out new and upcoming bay area talent who were strugglin' to break through. When most rappers were only talking about how gangsta they were in their raps, Mac Dre for the most part had fun and easygoing songs with recent album covers that only made you laugh. I was and still am more than proud to come from the same place as he did. I recently moved 500 miles away from the bay to go to college and even though I felt so far away when I bumped his music I'd always feel back at home. This is for the late great Mac Dre, thank you for your music that has brought inspiration and happiness to so many, in that you will be reborn and live on for an eternity. Sleep well Andre Hicks...

damn i remember the first time i heard him (young black brotha the ep/tape), that song mac dre is the name had me bumping the tape "all damn day"... him and khayree had me feelin a different type of bay rap, with khayree on the beats it was something ahead of it's time and also timeless..right now you can put in the early stuff dre did with khayree and it can still compare to what's out today...i remember waiting for him to touchdown after the time he did, i was wondering if he would still put it down like he did before...first got a little tease on that "mobbin thru the bay" comp but was a little disappointed that there wasn't more, then the dubee "aka sugawolf" album came out and after hearing him on there i was like damn the mac named dre is back!...i got to admit tho i was disappointed that him and khayree didn't hook up and do it like they did (except khayree's own "do you remember remix cd" & "the blackalation"), but i guess things gotta change and progress.....for a while i wasn't feelin him until about the last 4 albums (game is thick 2,genie of the lamp, dreganomics, all boo boo),but then with those albums i started goin back and coppin all the cd's in between and started to appreciate what he wuz try'n to do and progress in this rap game.....i should stop here cuz i know y'all don't wanna get this deep wit my opinion/views, so all i got to end with is i.m.o. mac dre was about to blow once again like he did before but somehow shit got fucked up and we won't get to see that happen, but fa sho his mark has been made and will forever live on... R.I.P. MAC DRE...

R.I.P. Mac Dre--you kept Rap fun and lived your life in a way most of us don't.

The first Mac Dre (solo) recordings of any kind that I got a hold of were the cassette versions of WHAT'S REALLY GOIN' ON and (a few weeks later) YOUNG BLACK BROTHA (the album) around '95. The main thing that first impressed me about MD was that he was hardcore w/ his lyrics and had dope skills, but he also knew how to laugh at HIMSELF and he wasn't embarassed to be (or look) silly. Too many rappers, even some that I personally love, insist on their dignity or have the attitude that everything has to be macho-macho-macho all the time. I got the sense that MD had no hang-ups about being himself, and that trait was evident from YOUNG BLACK BROTHA to the present. It was through Mac Dre solo CDs and comps that I first learned of Dubee, P.S.D., Da Unda Dogg, J-Diggs, Sleep Dank, Chuck Beez, the incomparable Miami, and other performers whose names I might not have mentioned yet.

While Mac Dre knew how to talk about the streets ("Same Hood", "Morals & Standards", "Fast Money", "On The Run") and do political-type songs about his problems w/ corrupt police ("Punk Police") and the prison system ("I've Been Down"), he never forgot that Rap started out back in the day as being about rhyming for the hell of it ("Rapper Gone Bad"), boogieing ("The Thizzle Dance", "Jump It", "Take Yo Panties Off") and, in general, making the fans happy, laugh and clap their hands. MD never forgot that rapping is supposed to be F-U-N. While some MD CDs might have been stronger than others, depending on one's personal opinion, all were basically a good time, which is a mood that many of today's rappers don't know how to recreate. You always knew that Mac Dre would give you a solo CD that was dope and that would give you a good time in one way or another.

I never met the man personally, but based on the comments from folks here who did, I know that I can rest assured that it would have been unforgettable, and that makes me even more sad about MD being gone. But his music and spirit will most certainly last forever--Mac Dre was a man who lived life to the fullest, and he taught us all a thing or two about how to "stop and smell the roses", as the expression says. We could all learn something from his example.

R.I.P., Mac Dre. Like the next-to-last song on THIZELLE WASHINGTON says, "I'm gonna miss you in the morning," and I'm sure that the rest of your fans would concur.

PEACE!

If anyone is familiar with China town in Fresno, it is the old down town of Fresno, forgotten area. Well there is a meat market there called "CHRIS's MEAT MARKET" some of the best comida there and hella cheap. Well anyways on an average night you get gente going getting food and getting the fuck on, due to the street gente that just walks around at night (ie. bums, homelesss, and tecatos)

WEll one night me and my homies went to go eat there and we looked on the intesection of Kern and I think "F" and there was this van doing figure "8's'' in the intersection everyone went nuts! all of a sudden a sideshow happened out of no where. We were bumping "gift to gab" before all this happened and everyone coming thru was bumping some mac dre cut. the Door opens in the van and the mac was in it? Mac who you ask? MAC MUTHA FUCKEN DRE.

I never saw china town so packed. everyone was side showin, just fucking around getting S-T-U-P-I-D!!!! It was fucking unbelievable. Got a chance to shake hands with him, although it was nothing to him. It was unforgettable to me. He went in that shithole of chinatown and had it poppin. Everyone was just yolking and getting along. Ain't no other artist that could/or will do that again. I'm sure you all have seen Treal tv, well the time I'm talking about is when they in fresno and some hyna in a blue jean outfit is in the van.

Although many will remember as a different way, I will remember him as just having fun and getting the party started.
