Police said Monday they had no motive yet for the fatal shooting of hip-hop artist M-Bone of Cali Swag District.
M-Bone, whom they identified as Mante Ray Talbert, 22, was shot twice in the head Sunday night in the 400 block of North La Brea Avenue, said Lt. Steve Overly of the Inglewood Police Department.
There was no known connection between Talbert's killing and that of Inglewood nightclub owner Alonzo Ester, who was fatally shot Friday in his Rolls-Royce in the driveway of his Baldwin Hills home, law enforcement sources said.
Talbert and a companion were in a stopped car in the general vicinity of a liquor store when an unknown vehicle pulled up. Someone inside reached out of the car window, pointed a gun and fired multiple shots, hitting Talbert in the head twice.
He died later at a local hospital.
Cali Swag District’s hit “Teach Me How to Dougie” set off a national dance craze and sold roughly 2 million legal downloads.
At least 69 homicides have been reported within 2 miles of Sunday's shooting since January 2007, according to coroner’s data collected for The Times’ interactive Homicide Report.
