As you know, the music industry has begun to crack down on music downloaders. One of their main arguements is that music-downloading, or file-sharing, whatever it's called, has caused a 30% decline in CD sales.
I think that is the stupidest bullshit arguement they can make. While music downloading has probably caused a dip in CD sales, that is not the reason. The reason is that you only have about 10 different artists to choose from it seems like. What I'm saying is that radio and MTV and BET contribute a lot to what artists are purchased. But now, all you get is a very few select pop stars on the radio, MTV, and BET. You can count on your hands the number of "artists" with their music played daily.
Remember the good old days (97 and before, so long ago ), when BET Rap City would play different videos EVERY DAY?! You had a plethora of artists to choose from. And remember when MTV actually used to play MUSIC? More CDs were purchased because there were more artists getting nationwide play in every genre. Now all you get are a very few pop stars, like Nelly, 50 Cent, Brittney, N'Sync, etc.
The reason for the decline in CD sales is because the general public will buy what gets played, and if it is only 10 artists then most people will only buy those 10 CDs. If they want CD sales to increase, then give artists easier access to the mainstream channels instead of closing it off to the ones who are not millionaires. Any other thoughts on this?
