In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented - but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a "looper" - a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) - is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good... until the day the mob decides to "close the loop," sending back Joe's future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.

I'm starting to really like Joseph Gordon-Levitt (no homo) and he may be the reason I make it a point to watch this movie. He was my favorite character in Inception even though he didn't really have a prominant role. He's got several movies coming out so let's see if he can keep it going. Other than that the synopsis seems cool, and I don't remember the last time a good time-travel movie has come out. I'll be watching this with tempered expectations.

Good time travel movies in the last couple years:

Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel (2009) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910554/

Timecrimes (2007) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480669/ (watch this one without reading anything about the plot before)

Hope it is as good as Willis' other time traveling movie 12 Monkeys.

Isn't this the same director who made that movie with Donnie Darko where he only has like a minute to find out who blows up a train?

No, that was Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son)....Rian Johnson directed Brick (also with Gordon-Levitt).

Yeah I watched it a few days ago at work when we were slow. It really impressed me. One of the better movies I've seen this year even though that's not really saying a lot lol. It is worth checking out though for sure.

Just finished it. I thought it was great. I wouldn't mind a sequel with The Rainmaker as lead character, but I doubt that will happen. The whole looping segment was hard to wrap my head around; I'm sure it will make more sense upon repeated viewings. For a second there, I thought the kid was going to turn out to actually be Tom (which would've been stupid), but it was apparent he did what he did because he was an orphan and didn't want that to happen to the kid. Highly enjoyable. 8.5/10
