I'm currently using:

the Canon HG20. You can check the video in my sig for the quality of video I've been getting from it.

I'm looking to spend between $2,000-$4,000 on a new video camera, only real requirements are that i want it to record to a hard drive, not tape. and it needs to be HD, of course.

I'd prefer a Canon, but I'm taking all suggestions, reasons behind the suggestions would be nice too haha.

Thanks

Why dont u just use that money to beef it up?

Brevis DOF adapter, Cinevate rail system, grips, a rode or senheiser mic.. etc.
links? im mostly just an editor, so as far as actual camera stuff goes, im out of the loop. but i dont really need a mic, i basically only shoot music videos, which the sound matters very little.

The Canon EOS 7D is one ive been looking at, i like that its 18 megapixel picture camera & full HD filming.

DSLR's dont record video at the same quality rate im looking for, that would probably put out the same quality i already have

ive been looking into getting the Red Scarlet camera, but its not gonna be released till the summer, not sure if i wanna wait that long, im impatient haha

i got a canon XH A1 HD camera. it's dope, but it shoots 1080i. nearly nobody is going to notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p, but there is a difference. only complaints about it is that it doesn't shoot at 60 frames per second (for ultimate slow-mo) but it is well worth the price (they are under $3k now). these use miniHD DV tapes. i just buy a 50 pack for cheap on ebay and save

my partner got a panasonic HVX. they are dope. a little more expensive. they shoot 1080p, but can shoot at 60 frames per second. these use the p2 chips. heard great things about these chips, but they are expensive. $500+ for 30min chip. and $900+ for 60min chip

(i'm not 100% sure that's the one he got, but it is Panasonic HVX, and it uses the P2 chips, i know that for a fact)

...the red cameras are dope because they shoot at a high resolution... so from what i understand they can shoot video that is 4 times bigger than what you need so you can do a digital zoom on your video editor and won't lose ANY quality unless you blow it up more than 400% the original size. also, i think that movie "Wanted" with angelina jolie and other feature films were shot with the red

like i said before i dont know too much about actually handling a legit camera set up haha. to me that thing looks complicated, but i'd be willing to figure it all out if it would be worth it. do u know of any videos that used that set up? or something similar

not feelin the quality in that summertime video. looks like something i could easily do with the bare camera
it seems that the summertime video uses a video filter (post-production) that gives it that look. i would describe the filter as a "70's warm feeling"... if that is the case, i can't judge the quality of the camera with that "soft and fuzzy" filter they put on it while editing

my camera pretty much shoots at the same exact quality as the camera used in the summertime clip. i could recreate that warm feel pretty easy with footage from my camera

the only reason it would be worth it for me to spend a few grand on a camera, or upgrades for the one i have now, is if it will be a good quality increase that will allow me to charge more for the videos i put out. i know under $5k isnt much for getting a prosumer camera, especially for the specifics i'd like...but im going to keep searching till i find what i need. or I'll just end up with the Red Scarlet camera when it comes out this summer
