My father passed away this morning. He was 68 years young and had the biggest heart for people.

He hadn't been sick or anything, but had been getting around slowly this past week and for the past few months since I took him to his 50th high school reunion, he seemed to be expecting death because all he has talked about was taking pictures of old houses and talking about life in perspective.

Before i went to SEMA, he said "When you get to SEMA, you tell Chip Foose that he can overhaul my truck and I'll even pretend to be surprised."

I thought it wasn't going to happen, ya know, because of the sheer amount of people at the convention.

On our way to the airport, he told me that I could either spend my life doing what others wanted me to do, or to do things for myself and experience the things that interested me.

He was telling me this because I was worried about losing my job since my request for time off was just a few days before the show, and he was so excited that I could experience such a once in a lifetime event for someone that's not directly involved in the industry.

I walked right into Chip leaving one of the halls and was able to share with him the funny things my dad said about his truck and his desire for Chip to make it over. It was really cool to be able to share it with him.

We sat around last night and looked at hundreds of pictures and videos of the stuff I saw at SEMA and he was so pleased and proud of me for taking a step toward being happy.

He is gone now and my family is in much pain, especially my mom. Please pray for my family and all the people that my dad affected.

He was a deeply caring person and his edge came with how much of a smart ass he was when he was people watching.

He was a big man with a big presence, and I hope that he's now in Heaven with my God enjoying his new life.

RIP to your dad mayn. I'm getting to the age now that I realize that my parents won't be around much longer. They've both abused their bodies with drugs and alcohol and have aged well beyond their years. Thanks for reiterating that I need to enjoy my time with them before they're gone

RIP to your dad. I wish strength for you and your family during this difficult time. Keep all of his memories close, and remember the lessons he taught.

Thank you, everyone.

It's tough to know that the biggest contributor to my dreams and hopes is gone.

I got home from Vegas yesterday and showed him the pics of the cars and people I met and he was so proud of me. He was determined that I follow my passions in life and see them to the finish.

When I took him to his 50th high school reunion and saw how people treated him like he was the greatest person to have ever graced their lives and him telling me to pursue my goals instilled in me the determination to be not only intelligent, but great at anything I put my mind to.

I hope to be my generations James Nichols.
