"It's included in the package." Is the pitch and so many fall for it thinking they're getting a good deal.
The whole CdBaby thing you can do yourself for the low low price of $59 in total. With that you get worldwide / digital distribution and a barcode in one step. I'm sure Discmakers added another $59 or more on top just for doing that for you.
In the end, you could of pressed them elsewhere for a lot cheaper & still got the same deal by signing it up on CdBaby yourself.
In the end it's not just the quality of the music. It's success, meaning if you break even after the sales your Cd is a success. Don't just focus on what you spent to have it pressed. Count all the money you put into it. Be it paying for features etc. You must add all that up and figure out if in fact your really making money, or just throwing a whole lot if it away.
Yeah, you'll push a few and think it's really going somewhere at first, but later you'll find yourself handing out free copies for "promotional purposes." That's the biggest lie to any independent artist. Never, ever sell Cd's out of your trunk or by mail. Let CdBaby handle all sales. I know, I know your about making money, right? You got to do what you got to do etc. BUT!!!!! Selling out of the trunk or straight from your hand is your word against anybody challenging that you sold X amount of units. If that was your intention you already lost money before your Cd was back from press, due to spending money on a barcode that won't even be scanned at sale and give you a record of the amount you sold. Unless you purchase it off CdBaby and do it like that.
Keep in mind, it's a business and as a businessman your job is to make your money back with profit.
How many hard copies did you press?
All in all, I wish you the best with it.
