A man convicted of raping and brutalizing three girls and five women in communities along Southern California's Interstate 710 has received 616 years plus nine life sentences in prison.
Superior Court Judge Gary R. Hahn handed down the prison term Wednesday in a Compton courtroom, where Daniel Sanchez refused to appear for sentencing.
Sanchez was dubbed the "Long Beach Freeway Rapist" at the time of the attacks between 2001 and 2003 in the cities of Paramount, Long Beach, Compton, Lynwood, Bell and Bell Gardens.
He was convicted Feb. 25 of 58 felony counts of rape, burglary and other crimes after a four-day trial.
Most of his victims were teenagers and two, ages 11 and 14, were attacked in their homes.
