Where did you hear about it? Who runs it?
I have heard and known about it for years. It's that father of the "Run & Shoot". I was just curious if any of y'all used it when you played in High School, Middle School, Pop Warner, etc. I'm using it for my sons' flag football winter league team that I'm currently coaching. We just practiced it last night and the kids had a blast running it. I've flirted with the idea for tackle season, but it's a formation you can run only a few times a season (In tackle). I want to use it as an emergency play and/or to make the opposition call timeout (In tackle). In flag, we're going to use it a little more and on each team at least once throughout the game. It's going to be fun in a few weeks when I try it in our first game. I'm going to try it on our first two point conversion of the game after our first TD.

Oh yeah, the Lonesome Polecat formation is mostly used at the youth level in football.

BUT SEE I WOULD BEAT THAT LONESOME STRIP POLE WITH 3 RUSHERS INTO YOUR CENTER AND GUARD, JUST BLITZ YOU...THAT IS SOEMTHING I SAW LSU OR FLORIDA DO THIS YEAR AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE D DID TO THE CENTER AND GUARD
Whenever you blitz there is always someone open, so your taking a gamble from a defensive point of view. The QB has multiple options out of the Polecat and if he see's the above blitz you just stated he has other options. Obviously the QB would throw it the open player whether it's the HB Screen Left, Eligible Center, TE or WR routes. Like a lot of other offensive formations, you will always have options A,B,C, etc. if you see a blitz coming after the snap.

We ran this in 8th and 9th grade. We called it Daffy Duck. Honestly, some of the worst playcalling I've ever been around. The match ups are terrible. You end up having a lineback or safety covering an eligible center and stuffing him. Teams look at the formation and tell you're not running the ball. They get into a pass defense. Cover the skill players. Load up on the strong side. I'd be surprised if we got positive yards on any of those plays.

I have used it when coaching flag football at the middle school level. It works well if you have three talented players...QB, RB and one receiver.

In flag football, players behind the line of scrimmage can throw the ball back n forth to each other to stretch the defense, so this formation opens up a few possibilities at once.

Exactly! Also it's not like you use this formation on every drive. It's a surprise play and usually makes the opposition waste one of their timeouts. I'll run the Single Wing, Trips, Jumbo and then bust out the Lonesome Polecat for a surprise play.

IM GETTING MY FASTEST PASS RUSHERS ON YOUR C AND G THEN....GIVE YOU NO TIME AT ALL TO DO ANYTHING, JUST A SACK...CHA CHA CHA MUTHAFUCCA!!!
You can have the fastest pass rushers, but the QB will still get the ball off because he is back in Shotgun. My snapper is excellent and so is my QB at getting the ball off fast. What level of football do you coach HYPHY???

Precisely, my friend.

We probably called this play once a game, if that! Obviously, sometimes not at all. The kids love it, because it looks fun as all hell and the look on the defense's faces is like 'whaaaaaat???'

Never heard that name for it, though...but yeah, I used it.

That formation ain't fuckin legal. Too many men on the line of scrimmage. One too many tackles. Only way that would work is if the TE is offset. Am I wrong?

I thought there can only be 6 on the line of scrimmage.
