DOPE!!

Sunday Single" is wishing you all a happy holidays - be it Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or the winter solstice celebration of your choice - with some tasty hip-hop. The song is "Anywhere" by Live Manikins, a local crew that's become the cream of Sacramento's rap scene in the three years they've been together. "Anywhere" isn't about that thuggish stuff that tends to get people uptight. The song is all about an uplifting vibe, with soulful backing vocals and a choice flute sample to keep the good feelings flowing.

LIVE MANIKINS
Song: "Anywhere"
Style: Positive minded hip-hop with worldly sounds
Members: MCs Self, Flavius, Linguistics, Runt Rock and DJ Rated R
Influences: Run-D.M.C., Hieroglyphics crew, Wu-Tang Clan, drum-and-bass beats.
Behind the song: "We had one of our in-house producers collaborate with the leader of a drum-and-bass crew from London called Universal Project," says Self. "When he heard the beat, the whole topic was just a beautiful day and enjoying life wherever we go.
"We just want to say support hip-hop in general because it?s in a state of emergency," adds Self. "We just try and promote music in its purest form and hope people relate and latch on to it."

What's up peoples ... this is Chris Macias from the Bee. I wrote that bit on Live Manikins and some of you may have seen my "To Live and Rap in South Sac" series last year (with features on Brotha Lynch, T-Nutty, First Degree, G-Macc, Tre-8 and many more). Anyway, just wanted to encourage the Sacto. rappers and producers out there to send some music my way. I've been doing a feature called "Sunday Single" where we feature a song from a different local artist each week, and I really want to get more hip-hop in that mix. Feel free to send some music to:
