Does anyone here participate in actual old school hand written (or typed, printed & signed) personalized letter writing campaigns for any type of political/social/human rights issue?

I have written state assembly and senate as well as congress people and senators on a few different issues.

Congress people on down reply with a form letter.

Never heard back from U.S. Senators though.

Supposedly hand written letters to congress are worth 10 phone calls or 100 emails from petition sites.

I like to participate in AI's prisoner's of conscience campaigns. You never know if it's going to go through, but every interview I've ever read from a released prisoner of conscience states that the letter's they recieve provides moral support that gives them a shred of hope just knowing that people around the globe are aware of their circumstance and care.

A few months ago, I got a response from the whitehouse about my concerns in Darfur, looks like it worked huh?

For real though, if everyone picked an issue and wrote to a political leader 2 to 3 times a week would we eventually see results or are these efforts futile?

That's cuz some freshman young republican white house intern read it and stuffed a form letter in an envelope addressed to you.

Futile. The U.S. political system is not responsive to average individual citizens.

Money talks, bullshit letters walk.

Form an interest group. Lobby. Use the money you raise to influence elections, you know - those things that average individual citizens think matter.
