This is hypothetical and doesn't involve my opinions, i'm just interested to hear people be honest and give their reactions.
Reading EDJ's post about revolution and reading people's reactions got me to thinking . . . . given this set of circumstances would you do anything?
Election time rolls around, that means U.S. presidential elections everyone (say the eve of the election or even sometime in October or November) the current president of the United States, Bush, says the election has to be postponed for a later date (indefinitely, for a year, a few months, etc). What would your reaction be?
A number of people believe that president Bush got into office by stealing the election vs. Gore. Now if he went that far to gain office and was then threatened not to gain re-election, why would he not do something shady to keep the presidency?
A number of other people believe the president or at least some gov agency, was at least complicit in the 9-11 attacks, if not directly involved. If they would go so far as to do 9-11 or let it happen without doing anything, why would they not do it again to keep power?
A number of people believe the current government in this country is extremely shady. Not only the party in power, but the opposition party both work together in their corruption to maintain control over the people and will go to extreme lengths including working closely together to keep things the way they are. Who's to say the party in power and the opposition (if not all, then some) wouldn't work together in the event of another 9-11 type situation to forgo elections and just keep things how they are?
I guess the point is, if the elections don't happen, they are "stolen" again, there is conveniently another major terror attack and everyone votes for bush, or there is some kind of marshal law declared, what would you do?
Would you object? Get out in the streets and use fist/gun to cast your vote?
Would you think that is something acceptable? If there is a Terror attack around election time then the election should be put off? Should there be a power change in the middle of a "war"? Stay inside and stock up on bottled water and non-perishable foods, board your windows, and get out the plastic sheeting and duct tape?
Just looking for some honest opinions, lots of people don't believe a revolution is possible, but what if it's not a bottom up kind of revolution, what if there is a coup, a putsch, a "national emergency"? Do you go along with it? Or do you choose to disobey it?
Just hear a lot of talk about how the president is so shady and evil, but i wonder if people would do anything if their "democracy" were openly challenged.
Your average hippie protest crap wouldn't work in any of these situations cuz the police/national guard/etc wouldn't allow it.
what would you do?
P.S. it would be appreciated if people would at least try and keep this discussion civil and not go into attacks about how Mr. SoandSo is a godless commie bastard and takes it in the butt on the regular from a dildo molded from Lenin or how Mr. Bumblefuck is a Neo-fascist cum dumpster who actually holds a number in the line to toss Dick Cheney's salad.
