HAHA, true true. My purpose was to question the origin of the word LATINO! I'm just assuming it's a word created by somebody who thinks South Americans and Mexicans are the only people with Latin backgrounds. I'm just saying, French, Spanish and Italians were Latin way before Mexicans and South Americans existed...so LATINO should refer to everybody with a LATIN background. I know that's not the case, but shouldn't it be?

well Romans were latin too, i mean hella races have latin in them so i see what your sayin but i mean its whites, blacks, asians, and "latins", thats the basics...........myself, im mexican, i dont consider my self hispanic and i hate the word latin, so i aint latin, im mexican american........

and to tell you the truth, most mexicans i know dont consider there self latino and dont like being called latino.......thats like a lot of phillipinos dont like being called asain............

I think it's just another word created to group people together, kinda like "hispanic". I don't remember what comedian said it, but he was bashing the word HISPANIC and said he's never heard of "Hispania". lol.

I feel you on the Latin thing, too. I wouldn't like people calling me Latino, just for the simple fact that LATIN doesn't exist anymore. Some people know the language, but it's not the native anywhere. It's almost like calling all black people "African-American", when a lot of folks roots are Jamaican, Haitian, Cuban, etc.

This is strange, no one from italy, spain, or especially france would EVER call themselves a "latino". The spanish would never consider themselves to be apart of worlds they onced colonized, infact in spain, they have a museum dedicated to the "culture" they spread all over latin america etc. The Spanish do not consider themselves "latino" by any means. The french are extremely arrogant and maintain populations of mostly black and white, again, they would find it pretty offensive as europeans to be considered "latinos" and the italians, well, ill just leave it alone.

The word "latin/latino" is a reference to a group of people from a geographical standpoint in this day and age, its not an identifier for europeans by any means, if you are talking "latin" based languages, thats a different story, but speaking a language and having an ethnic identifier because of that language is a little different.
