Here is most of the last interview I did with Nut back in the late summer of 2001, less than a month before he passed away. When I find the rest of it, I will post it up. That picture ( thats been stolen all over the internet lol ) was taken ( among many other pictures ) on the night of the interview.
So why hasn’t your album dropped yet?
Straight business, you know what Im sayin? I was gonna release it but then I started goin through all this business shit with In-A-Minute Records. Im tryin to get my money right, get what they owe me. Basically Im just tryin to have my money right so when my tape drop I can shoot these videos and everything.
Whos putting your album out?
Its still Game Tight Records, but we got a little issue on that too cause theres one in Texas, they just spell it different. Im workin on a deal right now, me and UNLV are workin on a deal with Universal, Priority and Def Jam. Whoever got the right pesos, Im fuckin with it on a slash deal. Me and my dudes.
Tell us about the new album…
Man, the album…I had to go back up in there and switch up a few things. I changed the name, it aint Skanless 2K no more or none of that. Im callin it Cougerrebel, since that’s what we livin in. Man, I had to go up in there and change like ten tracks. So I made ten new tracks. Side B gon be hittin. Its gon be the Coug side and the Rebel side, you dig?
The last time we talked you had a lot of different features on the album. Area you still keeping all the same features?
I got all my features but you know, me and a few cats fell out. Ima keep it honest to myself. I took them muthafuckas up off my tape and put my dudes on there like Baldhead, SB, Leo J, Cellski, Lil Mafia, Homicide from Sac. I tried to just take off all them other cats that just wanted to jump up on a muthafucka’s tape and check some recognition. I just wanted to show these cats that I could do it by myself with me and mine that I started in the game with. UNLV, Cellski mostly is all over my tape. But then again, my fuckin solo album done turned into a fuckin albulation. So Im workin on right now twelve straight new songs just all to the face and that’s the name of that album, To The Face.
Are you gonna shoot any videos for your new album?
We gon shoot two or three videos but Im just waitin to get my business right. Im not really rushin into that aspect right now. We got the money put away for that already. The funnel is right, I got my funnel back. It aint a paper shortage. The cats I been workin with, Sick Sho Nuff, Fly Gator, they tryin to keep my mind right so I can see my money this round. I don’t know what itll do, but hopefully Ill go ghetto gold. I aint tryin to go platinum, like the white folks want us to go five hundred thousand or a million. Im tryin to go ghetto gangster, you dig? Make my shit crack with my people up in these mom and pop stores.
Why do albums come out like Bay Area Bosses and you aren’t even featured or mentioned?
Muthafuckas putting out Bay Area Bosses, I aint even on that muthafucka so I aint really feelin that. Muthafucka aint even gave me a phone call. Muthafucka aint shot a credit on there that says “To the bay area bosses that wasn’t on it – COUGNUT”. Fuck Murderdog, all them muthafuckas man. Talkin about that Bay Area’s Top 50, I wasn’t even on it. I wasn’t on the top 50?
Who would have been the Bay Area Bosses in your mind?
The muthafuckas that started it. Im feelin my Bay Area young bosses. They coulda called us the Bay Area double OG’s. I feel all my niggas, JT, the muthafuckas that did it. Quinn, Keak, RBL, 11/5, C-Fresh, 4-Tay, all them niggas is Bay Area Bosses. I wish people would open they minds up. I know Im hard to work with in this rap game cause I got fucked before and I wont never let nobody fuck me again. Its getting late in the game and Im hittin hard in these late rounds. When my tape drop, the town gon bow down. I got heat, I know I got heat. Im talking about niggas, if the boot fit, then its you. We aint fuckin with none of that hatred.
