Lookin for something different? K'naan, former refugee from Somalia, now living in Toronto, makes music that is a mixture of hip hop, African beats and world music intertwined - combining African drums, chants, handclaps, guitars and organic instrumentation sets this album outside the hip hop herd. K'naan brings an enormous dose of realness and urgency to the hip-hop world in a time when people are desperate for it. From a personal and cultural history rooted in poetry (being the grandson of one of Somalia's most famous poets), K'naan widens the traditional hip-hop perspective.

What's Hardcore?
"We begin our day by the way of the gun
Rocket propelled grenades blow you away if you front
We got no police, ambulance or firefighters
we start riots by burning car tires
they lootin and everybody start shootin
most politicians talkin bout solutions
but its all talk
you cant go half a block with out a roadblock
you dont pay at the roadblock you get your throat shot
...
Imma spit these verses cuz I feel annoyed
and Im not gonna quit 'till I fill the void
If I rhyme about home and get descriptive
I'll make 50 cent look like limp biscuit"
