So I just happened to turn on 106 for a few minutes last night and they were playin' Quinn's "Shock The Party".

I thought, "Cool, they're playin' decent music for a change". The song ends and Shorty ( I think that's his name) comes on and says "Yea, from 2 years ago, from the 'Explosive Mode' album..."

Is it that bad that our own LOCAL djs don't know where one of the tightest tracks and example of Bay music is from? They need to stick to playing 85% Cock-A-Hella shit if that's the case 'cuz they are just the Yay a big disservice yappin' out bullshit like that.

Although I'll give Big Von his props though. He knows his shit.

90% of the listening audience could give a fuck what album it was off of or when it came out anyway....they just want to hear some music they can chill/groove/bob their head to. Shorty is a cool cat....we all make mistakes on air....not everyone is a P1 listener of bay area rap anyway.

On a side note....Alot of people actually do want to hear that "cock-a-fella" shit....don't be mad cuz Jay-Z makes hit records....you'd love your Quinn to death until commercial success and then hate that shit because it's no longer "underground". I love how certain rap fans like to piss and moan when their favorite independant artist's shit doesn't get radio play and then when one of their idols cracks into the maistream they call them a sell out. Hating people because of their successes is ass backwards.

Alright, I'll be a man and admit it. I was kinda hard on the dude, but DJs should know at least the basics of the music that they play, that's all. It's not a lot to ask.

Like I said, Big Von gets props and KMEL has been steppin' it up, especially on Friday nights.

And calling the Roc "Cock-A-Hella" was also kinda wrong. I don't know, sometimes folks get frustrated when they turn on a Bay Area radio station and the only hip-hop they'll hear most of the time is a Jay-Z/ State Property/ Freeway/ Memphis Bleek song or a whole hour of Southern club shit. I ain't knockin' Jay-Z or his hustle, 'Reasonable Doubt' is one of my favorite albums of all time and they are definitely at a level that few artists will reach. Shit, I love a lotta East Coast artists. I'm bumpin' Talib right now, for Christ's sake, along with old school Black Moon and Lord Finesse.

You ever wonder how folks would react if people on the East Coast turned on Hot 97 or what have you and all they heard was E-40 or Yuk all day?

That's how we feel like right now. We just want a little evening out of the field, that's all. I know it's Clear Channel and not the DJs' fault. I just don't know why the playlists are so South and East-biased when Bay artists make just as marketable hits.

Right now, the only stations in the Bay that are reppin' are KMEL when they have the Wake-Up Show and some parts of Friday nights, KPOO, KPFA and college radio.

Thank you. Couldn't have said it better myself. It always seems that any bay area rap listener is never satisfied.

Feel me on this! If you play a song and get the song title or whateva fucked up, come back and get it correct. The name and title is on the cd, vinyl or on the computer, so you shouldn't fuck up. That's wack homeboy, on KPOO I get shit wrong even my Bay shit (rarely), and I come back and get it right on the next brake. I show no love to KMEL. They supposed to hold the Bay down. We got a few cats that deserve rotation. And to fuck up like that, is total disrespecting the Bay as a fan and as someone in the Bizz.

Fuck em! Can't even give one show dedicated to the Bay.

Fa' sho homey if it was vice versa on the East with 40, Yuk, Bo, Quinn, RR, etc. them cats will be feeling like the majority of the Bay feels NOW.

Don't get sucked in to hearing one song 20 times in a day then end up like that shit. Tune into KPOO so I can play DugOut Ent. all day so ya'll can feel him like Jay Z or that Chingy cat.

Some artists have mass appeal, some don't. Most independant artists are smart enough to know that radio play doesn't matter. They can make just as much or more money independently by not going through the machine that is a record label. Cult following and underground appeal can get you paid more than major radio play and major labels.

Well I think the problem is they tried to work Limelight before all of the components were ready (i.e. vinyl, cd singles, promo shit) so now the mixers (who are the ones who break new records...and I'm sure you know this maaaaaan) are done with the Limelight joint and want to push the B-side. That might only be happening here at KDON but it's happening none the less.

Right Right....I know what your sayin...that single was shot to yall way earlier this year and it was played on KMEL and them too. The mixers had to choose the newer shit to them to help break the album...makes sense. The Anthem does knock tho and folks should love that just as well... :)
