Kyle Orton & Cedric Benson

So, why the fuck couldn't these guys do shit in Chicago? Benson is leading the entire NFL in rushing and Orton's squad is 5-0. They brought this up on PTI yesterday and I thought I would bring it up here to see what people's opinions are...especially since we have some die hard Bears fans here. Discuss.

Well, let's not forget Orton was 10-0 or something like that his first year with Chicago. The defense & ground game was what won them games, not really Orton, just like in Denver. He's good at managing games, not making too many mistakes but he's limited. You're not going to see him throw the deep pass very often successfully. He's also matured a bit, probably not drinking the whiskey as much these days. His neckbeard powers also increase +10 yearly.

Benson was a fuck up in chicago, in & out of jail and causing problems with his teammates. His first couple years Chi still had Thomas Jones, who was playing much, much better than Benson. The year Jones left, and Benson became starter, for whatever he just sucked. A lot of that had to do with the O-Line, a very limited/vanilla offense (which allowed defenses to pretty much know when they were to rush/pass) and a lot of it had to do with benson's mentality, he was kind of a quitter (not fighting for extra yardage, etc.). Whatever the case, he's doing better now because of totally different circumstances and I'm sure he got a "second wind" being in a new environment.

Denver is a better team than any of those Chi teams period. They have more weapons which means more balance, especially with their defense stepping up and playing up to their potential. And the same thing with Cincy. They have Palmer and Ochocinco for teams to prepare for so you have to pick your poison, and Benson obviously wasn't who coaches where game planning around. Now they know they have to account for him as well. And definitely better O-Lines means better Qb protection ,and more time for Orton to set up, and in Cincy it means bigger holes to run through.

To make it simple, they are as good as the teams they are on. Neither make their team worse. They actually fill a void that is needed on good teams.

Orton has shown he can whip the ball around the field. It helps, of course, to have some targets like Marshall, but I was impressed with his passing accuracy the entire game last week.

It may be the system, but CHI's OL was actually fairly good. Maybe it was because defenses knew Chicago was more a running team? I dont know, but changing scenery for a player can do good, and that seems to be the case for Benson.

Well the year he was a starter the o-line had some injuries. I just remember watching games and seeing no holes at all for benson most of the time.

and when there was a hole he'd fall over after 2.6 yards whether someone touched him or not.
I remember watching that shit and was like "damn thats our 1st round pick?" Kind of like Grossman.
Thats why Im glad we gave up our 1st round. We never draft anyone good with that pick anyway, with the exception of Forte of course.
The only good players we draft seems to be in the 3rd round or later as of late, Look at Knox.

Orton is average it's the system in Denver, just like with us it was are D and running game that saves his 150 yards a game ass, and Benson needed to be on the unemployment line to go back to the Texas days of running the ball he knew that Cincy was his last chance in the nfl. But why we let go of these guys Justin Gage always like him but Lovie didnt, Bernard Berrian why not give him $$$$$, Mark Bradley 2nd rd pick let him go now KC good #2 WR

I think those guys were always average and they figured they could draft better talent, which never really worked. Berrian was the best but he's still a borderline #1 and would be better as a #2 imo, like when it was him and Booker. Knox seems like he could be legit, it helps having one of the fastest guys in the league in Hester and Olsen getting attention from the safeties... I still rock my Marcus Robinson jersey from time to time.

Back on topic, Orton's a great system QB. He wouldn't do much running the Texans or Cardinals offenses. Benson's always been talented but for some reason never showed it on Da Bears. I don't think he really gave a shit in Chicago. My friend's a somewhat reputable fantasy writer and laughed when I said Benson would get 300 carries this year at our draft. Compared to Chicago he's got a better O line, a better QB and better WRs, so having a good year isn't surprising, but the numbers he's putting up are.

It's only been 5 games since Orton and Benson last sucked. That's not really enough to say that they pulled a 180 in their career.

Orton is doing better because Denver thrives on neckbeard. Jake Plummer - Neckbeard - Playoffs. Jay Cutler - no neckbeard (diabetes) - no playoffs. Kyle Orton - Neckbeard - undefeated.

As for Benson, I think its a lot easier to run the football when you have Carson Palmer keeping the defense honest. Plus, Cincy is a good place for criminals to thrive as football players.

i would never draft university of texas players, they seem to get coddled in college and cant hang in the nfl. they look great in texas and then they look avg in the nfl for some reason.

Yeah...Steelers drafted Limas Sweed in the second round 2 years ago. I've never seen worse hands in my entire life. He gets wide open and drops everything.

I'm just happy cuz I know a complete fucking douchebag from U of Texas who said that Vince Young, Cedric Benson, and Limas Sweed were his favorite football players of all time.
