kitchen vs your room

why is it that we can leave food in the kitchen an its all good....yet when we leave it in our room for a day or two, it gets ants?

My cousin house used to be like that.... would drive them crazy with all the ants... you need to spray around the base of the house with a chemical made especially for ants and spiders... I have to do it.. I cant fuck with hella spiders..
