EliteXC on Wednesday announced that Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson’s opponent for Nov. 10 in Corpus Christi, Texas has been changed from Mike Bourke to Bo Cantrell.
Bourke apparently had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury according to EliteXC President Gary Shaw.
“We tried all the way through Monday to get him medically well,” said Shaw. “We don’t want to put anybody in a fight that is not medically able to fight … we have now signed Bo Cantrell.”
EliteXC swooped in to sign Kimbo to the promotion after his scheduled fight with David “Tank” Abbott fell apart last month.
An internet anomaly due to his popularity in unsanctioned “street” fights, Kimbo made his mixed martial arts debut earlier this year defeating former heavyweight boxing champion Ray Mercer in an exhibition bout.
He has also been training on a consistent basis both at Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight titleholder Randy Couture’s gym in Las Vegas and with former UFC Heavyweight Champion Bas Rutten.
