Brett Rogers is definitely not a company man. EliteXC passed over 'The Grim' to give 44-year old Ken Shamrock the next shot at Kimbo Slice. That had Rogers steaming mad when he and his handlers decided to release a statement to the Five Ounces of Pain blog.

I don't think Rogers (pictured) will be doing a media tour on behalf of the promotion to pimp the Oct. 4 CBS show after this diatribe.

Rogers feels cheated:

"As for Oct 4th; that was our spot. Shamrock with his name and giant ego butted in line to get a slice of Kevin. At 103 years of age Ken usurped our rightful place against the YouTube champ. Our sincerest hope is that Ken whips Kimbo and then we can finally euthanize the "World's Most Dangerous Man" and relegate him to some MMA dinosaur exhibit. Maybe taxidermy him and (Dan) Severn and place them on a rotating pedestal where they can endless circle each other.

He says one can only imagine how big the Kimbo myth will get with a victory over Shamrock:

If Ken proves to be more sham [than] rock and Fergi beats him, then the Slice hype grows even greater. Dude is already more myth [than] Sasquatch, Chupacabra and a [expletive] unicorn combined. Kevin is the black Yeti.

Rogers even goes as far as saying Kimbo isn't really from the mean streets. We see Kimbo duking it out on YouTube with some rough-looking characters in Miami. 'The Grim' says that's all bull:

Kimbo made it a point to go frontin' to our boys at Big Black. But that street thug B.S. might work well with the fan bois and the Internet dorks who think your street cred means something; but Son ... Brett comes from Cabrini Green; the worst 12 blocks of America. Compared to that your street is Sesame Street."

Rogers (8-0) also does a nice job of dropping a 'Jurassic MMA' line about Kimbo potentially cleaning house with Keith Hackney, Harold Howard and Fred Ettish.

'The Grim' has a right to be angry and this is quality smack talk that he's directing at both Kimbo and Shamrock. But does he really have the fighting pedigree to make these digs? Who is Brett Rogers? He's an out-of-shape looking 6-foot-5 dude with no proof of a ground game. His quality wins are against Jon Murphy and James Thompson. Butterbean also counts Thompson as a quality win.

Rogers' eight wins have come against guys with a combined 34-43 record and that includes two dudes who are 0-1. Among his "big" wins were three guys (VIDEO) who wore wife beaters to the cage and another who has the build of 'Playboy' Buddy Rose.

Could Rogers beat anyone in the WAMMA Top 15 -- Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Nogueira, Josh Barnett, Randy Couture, Andrei Arlovski, Tim Sylvia, Fabricio Werdum, Gabe Gonzaga, Cro Cop, Ben Rothwell, Aleks Emelianenko, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson, Brock Lesnar and Cheick Kongo? Speaking to one Las Vegas oddmaker, all of these fighters would be at least -300 against Rogers. In fact, I'd be willing to say Rogers couldn't beat one of the "fossils" that he mentioned, Dan Severn.

This is all starting to reek of Double-A baseball players talking trash or Jose Canseco raining smack on Vai Sikahema. Actually, add Sikahema to the list of guys who could probably beat Kimbo and Rogers

I'm a big Kimbo fan and I respect him for deciding to go into MMA and busting his ass off training with Bas. I just can't stand all the fucking idiots who think just cause Kimbo beat up a bunch of nobodies in his backyard that he can contend with legitimate heavyweights in MMA.

Even Kimbo himself says he is a baby in this sport and wants to work his way to the top.

so he's fighting a 44 year old, likely way past his prime? and not the guy who calls him out? so weak! i feel silly for ever even having a nightmare about kimbo chasing me and thinking he's a scary, tough guy.

Why “Kimbo Slice” vs. Ken Shamrock makes sense for EliteXC

Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson will get a shot at a UFC Hall of Fame fighter in his second prime-time appearance on CBS.

EliteXC has paired Slice with Ken Shamrock (26-13-2) in the main event of the third edition of EliteXC CBS Saturday Night Fights on Oct. 4 from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The promotion and CBS will make the official announcement on Tuesday.

"This is the biggest fight that can be made right now," EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "It's bigger than Brett Rogers. It's bigger than Sean Gannon. Millions and millions have been entertained by Ken Shamrock over the years in Japan, in the UFC, and in the WWF, now the WWE. He's the biggest proven pay-per-view commodity in the sport. Together, those two will maximize the eyeballs for mixed martial arts on Oct. 4th."

While Rogers and Gannon were considered as opponents for Slice's fourth pro MMA bout, both carried more risk for EliteXC and Slice than Shamrock. The unbeaten Rogers criticized Slice (3-0) following the former backyard brawler's victory over James Thompson in May. Rogers would easily be the best fighter Slice has faced at this point in his career, and having Slice lose on CBS would be a significant setback for EliteXC as it builds to a major pay-per-view show in early 2009.

Gannon represented risk of different kind. The Boston cop is just 1-1 as a pro and hasn't fought since 2005. He's credited with a street-fight victory over Slice in a scrap that's become something of a legend on YouTube. However, resurrecting the street-fighting past of two fighters with a combined five pro fights between them would have been too much of a sideshow for network TV and alienated scores of MMA purists.

"It's a very, very legit and dangerous fight for both sides," said Shaw. "Ken says he's seen holes in Kimbo's game like Swiss cheese, and he's looking to expose them. And Kimbo Slice is the baddest man standing today in any combat sport."

In the 44-year-old Shamrock, EliteXC re-signs a fighter it cut in April following his knockout loss to Robert Berry in March. While Shamrock's skills have eroded, he's still a name in the sport that has the potential to draw viewers. CBS will promote this as the MMA version of "Rocky versus Clubber Lang" ala Rocky III. It's Shamrock, the wily veteran, looking to prove he still has game against the young wrecking machine Slice.

It could be good TV, even if it's not a great fight.

In an interview with MMAjunkie.com in June, Shamrock said Slice is "not ready" when asked about his development as a big-time fighter. Shamrock will now get a chance to decide firsthand just how much Slice has improved since he was tested against Thompson.

and the winner of this fight will battle Brett rogers

i see the point the article's trying to make. in a way taking up for kimbo's lacking. i suppose from the perspective of a fan it's harder to relate to the fact that he's not ready since we expect them to put forth that image of being prepared to fight anybody. it's no fun waiting around for the fight i want to see, and having to sit through a prerequisite with 44 year old shamrock.

I'm a Kimbo supporter.

He's humble in the sport of MMA, and openly admits that he's got a long way to go as a professional athlete. I don't understand why so many people are waiting for him to fail.

i hate kimbo slice haters. Kimbo is a hard worker and he starts his carreer fighting nobodies like everybody else, except kimbo has made himself a buzz before his pro career began unlike other people. People saw kimbos come up and hes the peoples champ, so quit hating on that man cuz he can beat the shit outta you.
