I just bought a yamaha digital keyboard YPT-400 really just for kicks. It was around $200. I have been playing piano for years though so it's not a waste. Theres a USB connection to hook up to the computer. What I'm basically asking is if anybody knows what kinda shit I can do with this thing??

Well, you should be able to use it as a midi controller then. Which then means if you have a music making program like FL Studio, Reason, Cubase, Sonar, etc... you will be able to play your keyboard notes into those programs. Maybe you can also send/record the sounds that your keyboard makes into your computer also, not sure though.

Man like others have suggested. Use the best sounds you have on the keyboard. But for the most, connect it to your computer through your soundcard via MIDI/USB. And use that bitch as a controller. I recommend FL Studio and/or Cubase SX to do sequencing. But most important of all, get some good VST/VSTi plugins. They will be the soul of that controller.

Some of my favorites are:

Hypersonic 2
Korg Legacy Collection
Applied String Studio
Slayer 2
Albino 2
DaOrgan
Octopus
Novation Bass Station

There are many many more. The sky is the limit with the software technology we have today. You can even get Battery 2 for drum sampling and use your controller with that and do a lot of the same exact things that are done on MPC's. Do some research.

Personally though I would of just invested that money into an actual Midi Controller. Korg, M-Audio, etc. But luckily, you can use it as that.

Good luck. If you need any help send me a PM.

Peace.

Yup, the sky is the limit indeed with all the software plugins that are out there. It's an endless amount of sounds.

And as far as buying an actualy Midi Controller in the first place, yeah that could have probably been a better idea. I got my controller for about $220, an M-Audio Axiom49 and not only do you got the 49keys, but you get knobs, sliders, buttons and drum pads. I don't think that was his intention though. His main intention was probably just to fuck around with the built-in sounds that the Yamaha comes with. That's cool I guess, but you definitely do get more and much better quality sounds with good plugins like Hypersonic, etc...

Lol you should know, I got a 20 page thread about me.

But I really don't know what I want to do. If I could create beats with this plus a couple other things, I'm down to expiremnt a little. I'm pretty good with music I play a few instruments & have done mixing and what not so I kinda know my shit. But this is getting into another side of music I'd like to try.
