Shit, I seriously think this guy might get killed. He's got a nice record but never faced anyone like Pavlik. Kelly wins by 2 round KO (Duddy's head falls off).

"Irish" John Duddy (21-0, 16 KOs)

Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs)

By Mark Vester

The Vindicator of Ohio reports that WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs) will make the first defense of his title against "Irish" John Duddy (21-0, 16 KOs) on Jan. 26 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The fight was originally eyed for Madison Square Garden in March, but there was a conflict due to the NCAA Tournament, and a January Garden date became a problem as Roy Jones Jr. and Felix Trinidad collide at the venue on Jan. 19.

"It's going to be crazier than last time," said Pavlik's co-manager Cameron Dunkin to The Vindicator . "It'll be nuts and it's going to be so much fun."

Pavlik's trainer Jack Loew feels that Duddy is not on Pavlik's level, but they are not going to take any chances.

"I'd much rather fight in the Garden, but Atlantic City is great for us," said Loew. "The fans showed a lot of support. I don't think he [Duddy] is up to Kelly's level right now. But we're going to train as hard as we can. We want to hang on to this championship for awhile. I don't know if it's going to be a long or a quick evening for Duddy, but either way it's not in his favor."

Duddy has a scheduled tuneup against Prince Arron (10-2) on Saturday in Dublin, Ireland.

I kind of like it because he's staying active (fighting in less than 4 months) and I'd like to see him enjoy being champ for a bit and also to "tune up" before his mandatory rematch with Taylor (unless taylor of course backs out).

BTW, Duddy is from Ireland, not a Brit!

Jermain Taylor Holds The Key To Pavlik-Duddy

By Rick Reeno

Earlier today, a report came out in the Ohio Vindicator, stating that WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs) was making the first defense of his title against "Irish" John Duddy (21-0, 16 KOs) on Jan. 26 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Eddie McLoughlin, president of Irish Ropes and promoter of Duddy, told BoxingScene.com that talks are ongoing with Pavlik's promoter Top Rank, but nothing can be set until the situation with Jermain Taylor is sorted out.

"We did talk with (Bob) Arum. Negotiations are still ongoing with us and Top Rank. Taylor is still involved with the fight by association because of the rematch clause. Until that gets resolved we are out. It's not done until Taylor decides what he wants to do. He has 30 days to exercise that clause, which I think ends on October 29. We have to sit it out until then and go ahead with our plans until Taylor makes his decision. We would love to fight Pavlik if everything is right. Right now we are looking to fight again on Dec. 8 in Belfast until some facts and figures come up to offset that. The brass ring is with Pavlik. If that comes, that's the fight we want, but first the situation with Taylor has to be resolved.”

Pavlik's co-manager Cameron Dunkin, said that he is confident that a fight with Duddy will be made for Jan. 26. The general feeling of Cameron and Top Rank is that Taylor will not exercise the rematch clause for a non-title fight at a catch-weight of 166-pounds.

"I think Kelly will fight John Duddy. We are going with that fight." Dunkin told BoxingScene. "It will be an exciting fight."

Lou DiBella, promoter of Taylor, informed the site several days ago that Taylor was still undecided as to whether or not he will exercise the option for an immediate rematch with Pavlik or take another fight.

I didn't think Pavlik would be able to last against Taylor, I was impressed. I still think he is vulnerable though. I like to see him out there defending the title already though. I think he'll be someone that takes pride in his title and will work hard to defend it no matter who it is against. He'll win this fight.

Oh man, I really hope this happens so I can finally see Mora annihilated

Sergio Mora: "I Can Beat Kelly Pavlik"

By Mark Vester

In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Sergio Mora (19-0-1, 4 KOs), who won the first season of The Contender reality show, said that he possesses the tools to beat current WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29KOs). Mora is even willing to fight Pavlik in his hometown of Ohio.

"Having Kelly as the champion is exciting for the division," Mora said. "This is a division people like to watch, and Kelly's an exciting guy who throws a lot of punches, hard punches, and who starches people. But stylistically, Kelly Pavlik is someone I can beat. He doesn't have the athleticism or the speed or the head movement. He has great, great power, but you can offset that power with speed, movement and angles."

On Tuesday, Mora fought to a disappointing draw with Elvin Ayala, a result that is sure to knock him out of the Pavlik sweepstakes. Though, Mora is still being mentioned high on the list of possible interim opponents for Jermain Taylor, if Taylor decides to pass on a rematch with Pavlik.
