The Black Panther Fugitives - All of Us

Its 3 dudes from Oakland, its executive produced by former Panthers, David Hilliard, Fredericka Newton, etc.

So far I'm feelin the CD to the fullest, tight beats and flows.

On track #3 they shout out a gang of bay rappers sayin "they down with us" - seff, jt, san quinn, yukmouth, killa tay, e-40, and some more--I wonder if they say that cuz they support them and chopping it with them about politics or what

I copped it in Berkeley Rasputin's, along with Who Got It? the comp and Mr. Lif - I Phantom

IMPORTANT--- for those who mistakenly believe that the Black Panther Party was anti-white, check out this CD for an introduction to the Panther ideology, as applied to our 2002 circumstances. it will clear up a lot of thangs. you should still read some books on it but its an intro.

TENK - I was expecting something similar to Coup or Dead Prez, who are both inspired by the Panthers. But this album is more simple, more simple street rhymes. Its not as political as The Coup or Dead Prez. The best part is the beats and the snippets of speeches by various Panthers and other political figures. But they got a few tight lines.

PIMPERONI - I think the first track is the tightest!! Hustlah rips that bangin beat, but XO fucks up the whole track for me, I think that fool cant rap for shit. #2 is cool, on some real shit. #4 is straight, #9 knocks. Haven't gotten to that Mac and AK/Wax track yet. Can't give an overall rating YET... will come shortly

MISTA CANE - How did you connect with that dude? If you're heard the Fugitives CD, can you identify one of his verses so I can tell who he is? Do you know anymore about this project? I was surprised to see it in Rasputins

mezzano: he's fokes with e-q who handled all my production. they'd been workin on that cd for a real long time. bones is the tightest of the 3 to me, he sounds kinda like dmx..rough ass voice. another thing is they dont swear... they say nigga but no "fuck" or shit or anything like that. just thought i'd mention that since its kinda unique. pz

Ok dogg, good lookin. But they do say "hoes" on the album which is weak for a group thats suppose to be righteous.

Do you know anything about the history of this project, are they or the old Panthers trying to build up the political rap scene in the Bay?

How did you hook with E-Q?

mezzano, thanx for the post. i'll ask some of the original members of the BPP if they can shed more light on the album.

also, how'd you like I Phantom? the only mr. lif i've heard is the "Emergency Rations" EP, and the only song i really liked off it was home of the brave. would u recommend I Phantom? do any of the songs have the same vibe as home?

mezzano, a lot of the original Panthers are still around Oakland and the bay, and many are still active. i've met them mainly thru working with different organizations. i can name names if ur really curious but i just don't usually do that for nething. neways, i also searched around the web for more info on the album. it's being sold at: http://www.blackpanthertours.com/homepage.html

it's mainly the site for the panther tour but they sell books and some other stuff too. looks like david hilliard and fredericka newton are running it but it's not totally clear.

about the production on the Mr. Lif, i'd be surprised if his beats started havin an Oakland influence but when with the producers from Def Jux behind u (El-P, Edan, etc.) i dont' really blame him. whattabout the lyrics? would u say they're more abstract or his he rhyming more about concrete things?

mezzano, i talked to one of the vets today and he said that BP Records is mainly David Hilliard's projects. Apparently David and Bobby Seale's grandsons have tuned them onto hip hop so David is trying to push political hip hop with a BPP perspective. Bobby's grandson or nephew or something raps too so he might try to work on something. i'm pretty curious about how they sound now since u said that they weren't that political. i guess i'll recieve my copy soon enough.

Mobbin- Yeah its all David Hilliard, he's the main dude trying to preserve the BPP legacy etc.

Mr. Lif album is not abstract almost all concrete, 80% story-telling, its a tight CD if you can get into it. I think if he kicks it wit folk like the coup and hiero when hes out here he will get into more west coast sounding beats too, thats just my $.02

stay in the struggle dogg. hit me on PM and let me know what your strategy is, and i'll hit u with mine

Is this a Black Panther Records release? I think it's the same guys who were on Hard Knock Radio (94.1, 4:00 P.M.) a while back.
I also don't think the mis-conception of the Black Panthers being anti-White is a mistake; it's part of something that's "bigger than hip hop."
