we all know the world is round.

we all know about gravity.

say JOE was to dig a hole in his backyard...say he is capable of digging his way to the other side of the world...what would happen when he got to the center of the earth on his journey to the other side?...would he forever get stuck floating in the middle of earth?...if he jumped in feet first...would he come out the other end upside down?...or will gravity just pin him in the middle and JOE is left floating like an austronaut?

did i make myself clear?

JOE starts digging at point (A)...point (B) is exactly on the other side of the world where JOE is digging...if JOE jumped in feet first from point (A), would he shoot out of the earth like a bullet head first at point (B)? would the speed be so tremendous that he shoots himself right into outer space?...or will gravity just keep him floating in the middle?...and when does JOEs "up" become his "down"?

will JOE just keep falling back and forth and never even make it out?

*not taking into consideration the hot lava inside the earths core*

The reality is that we cannot go to the center of the earth. We can't even go to the bottom of the ocean because there is too much pressure, and the bottom of the ocean is not nearly as far down as the center of the earth. Not to mention the heat which is so severe it would melt any material apparatus we would have used to get down there.

If Joe jumped feet first from point A I think he would rapidly fall at a rate where the speed of his descent would increase by twice as fast as his height and whe he came out at point B not only would he be alright, but his eyes would form to a slanted position from the time and force of his fall and that fool would speak chinese. And that's not just something I made up. Many the scientist, physicist, and geologist share this same theory... lava at the center of the Earth, ha, you guys are a bunch a dumbasses. Who told you that shit Columbus...

"Speed of his descent would increase by twice as fast as his height"? How fast is your height?

The core of the earth is iron, surrounded by a molten outer core. The pressure is an inconceivable 840,000 atmospheres. No one is travelling to or through there.

Lol @ replies
LMAO @ "did i make myself clear?" and then the indepth paragraph

WELL i think hed get stuck. LAVA is actually MAGMA inside the earth. Considering it invalid for the course of the experiment, we will assume JOE will fall to the center of earth, he will no doubt make progress escaping the opposing gravity. But due to energy loss from air friction, i feel he will not escape to the other side. After a sea-saw battle with opposing forces, he will remain in the center of the earth WEIGHTLESS as long as the earth is still moving thru space.

Gravity pulls everything down at the same speed according to it's mass. So if Joe was a 230 lb. Manchurian at 7'3" and lets say his rate of descent was 10mph, everytime he passed 7'3" his speed would double. I learned that offa Mr. Wizard. He'd still come out on the other side speakin chinese tho maybe even knowing Kung Fu also. That's a hypothesis I've come up with on my own tho without any scientific research other than everybody knows all chinese people know Kung Fu.

^^ I DISAGREE.

Thers a thing called TERMINAL VELOCITY when you cant go any faster. Its impossible to keep doubling your speed indefinately because everything reaches the same point eventually weather your 100 pounds or 4000000 pounds. I think by the time you pass the center your gonna start to slow down and it would be extreemely close if you made it to the other side (assuming you didnt jump or come out in the midle of a mountain; adding extra distance)

NOTE: im aware of the magma or whatever in the middle...but if it wasnt there, what would happen to joe?

so joe would just bob in the middle of earth for the rest of his life?...would he implode maybe?...gravity going one way, gravity going the other way, kind of like a black hole maybe.

my theory is even if you do make it through the heat and all the pressure would kill you, imagine all the gravity pull in the center of the earth, you would implode if you made it there some how...

I dont think so, i think it would be more like running with a rubber band around you. youre not going to come to a complete stop and implode. Besides of your in the center and your like 6 foot tall, i think it would have no effect other than weightlessness.
