Those were two good fights but not on this level by any stretch of the imagination, but if you like an all out action fight where both fighters stuck to their fight plan, where neither fighter is backing up, both taking incredible blows that would knock a good fighter out, then this was the one. Both fighters held their ground. There were no clenches (Not one time). Both threw power punches in every round until the last bell. I too had Perez ahead. I thought it was closer than the judges had it, but I thought it was unanimous. Even without the suspect knockdown, I still would have gave it to Perez. Cold thing about it is I had never even heard of Perez before this fight. And in my opinion, a fight doesn't have to have a KO to be a great one. The chin on these two dudes are made of granite.

A fight doesn't have to be a KO to be a good one .. most of favorite fights went the distance. I think the fact that I had Perez winning so clean took a lot away from it. I scored round 10 even with the knockdown because that was clearly Agbeko's round. They had a lot of punches thrown but it's not different than a fight like Cristobal Cruz Vs. Orlando Salido. High volume, toe to toe action for the whole 12 rounds.

FOTY's are usually extremely close, high drama style fights. This just wasn't it IMO.

.. and the only other Perez fight I remember seeing was him getting completely schooled by old man Mabuza then coming back with a miraculous 12 round knockout.

It was a great fight but like naner pointed out there are two fights that were better (diaz-marquez was the best imo).

This fight lacked the drama of the other fights. I mean yeah they both threw millions of punches but neither guy really got hurt (besides the headbutt/knockdown) and for much of the middle rounds the punches seemed to lack power.

Also, the skill level of diaz-marquez is just on a whole other level.

I disagree, I saw Agbeko get stung a few times, but he gutted his way through it. So did Perez (A virtual unknown). Of course these fighters aren't as well known as Marquez and Diaz, but none the less, they brought a more exciting fight to the table imo. This fight gets more points than the Marquez knock out of a Diaz, a fighter who has subpar defense and little to no power. He was perfectly made for Marquez, who is a great counter puncher who picked Diaz apart from round to round, even though it looked like Diaz was doing the damage. Yeah, he outworked Marquez for a while, but in the end the results were not a big surprise. That's not a FOY in my opinion, but we're all entitled to our opinion. I'd rather see two evenly matched fighters go head to head to see who can impose their will on the other fighter. In this fight, neither gave an inch and I can't wait to see the rematch.

I missed it since it was Halloween night.
Reading about it didn't seem that intense, I was just impressed by the de-throwning.
You made me think I missed the fight of the year!!!

I'll check it out...
