Miami, Apr 17 (EFE).- Former baseball star Jose Canseco is trying to turn a profit from his house arrest by selling, over the Internet, an afternoon with him at his home in South Florida.
On his Web page (www.josecanseco.com), the Cuban-born slugger says a buyer might choose to work out with him at his home gym in Weston, north of Miami.
Other options for those willing to pay a minimum of $2,500 are "private power-hitting instruction, private martial arts instruction, workout with Jose and cook out by the pool." The site also hawks photos of a bare-torsoed Canseco, each with accompanying certificate of authenticity, among other items.
Judge Leonard Glick, who in March sentenced Canseco to two years of house arrest, three years of probation and a course in anger management, described the former player`s behavior as "strange." "He`s like the eBay convict," Glick told The Miami Herald, comparing Canseco to the famous Web auction site.
The six-time All-Star was sentenced, along with twin brother Ozzie, in connection with a 2001 brawl at a Miami Beach nightclub.
At the trial, Canseco pleaded guilty to five charges of battery and disorderly conduct. Canseco`s 446 home runs earned him 26th place on the Major League`s all-time list.
Canseco has played with the Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
