Pointless. With the talent that Joe has, I don't see why he would avoid the big fights. Ever since Calzaghe beat Lacy, he's done everything he could to avoid the big fights. He was calling out Hopkins when Bernard said he was retired, but as soon as Hopkins mentions a comeback, Calzaghe wanted no part of any negotiations. Also, once Kessler knocked out Beyer he was interested in a Calzaghe match, but Joe again wanted no part of Kessler. So now Kessler's fighting Librado Andrade (from La Habra, OC) this weekend, hopefully the winner will call out Joe once he beats Manfredo.

Calzaghe is a fucking wimp if you ask me, he hasn't really fought anyone worth mentioning. But, I do think he might be too much for Manfredo, but Manfredo did look good in his last fight.

We'll see. I'd like to see the winner of the Winky/B-Hop fight take him on and shut his ass up.

calzaghe whooping jeff lacy isnt worth mentioning?

Hell nah...Lacy is overrated. No handspeed, no head movement, he's basically a one trick pony... hense the name Left Hook Lacy. Did you see how horrible he looked against Tsypko ?

It's funny how boxing fans in the US think their fighters are top notch, and no one else is an elite fighter unless they beat one of the American fighters.

Hopkins went from Middle to LHW, skipping over Super Middle.
Taylor is 160, and Winky is true at 154.
None of them are even in Calzaghe's weight class, so why compare?

Jeff Lacy, over-rated or not he was THE top American prospect before Taylor beat Hopkins and Calzaghe made it look like it was an exhibition match.

Calzaghe rapes anyone at 168.

^^Even Kessler? There's even alot of Brits on some of the boxing forums I frequent that thinks he'll lose to Kessler if they fought. Besides his impressive victory over the one dimensional Lacy, who has he beaten worth mention. He had a SD victory over Robin Reid, a UD over Chris Eubank, a TKO over shop worn Omar Sheika, a UD against Charles Brewer and an early ref stoppage TKO over Byron Mitchell. Good fighters, yes but no one really special IMO. On top of that he goes from fighting Lacy to fighting Sakio Bika and then Manfredo. If he doesn't unify with Kessler or fight a top dog after Manfredo, I'll continue to question his status.

^^

Calzaghe beat top caliber fighters who were solid for the time, but 5 or 6 years have passed and now everyone thinks of them as washed up.

Mario Veit, Mabary Salem, Byron Mitchell, Miguel Jimenez, Charles Brewer, Robin Reid, and Omar Shieka. These were the best at 168 from 1998-2004. I don;t know why he never fought Eric Lucas, but he would have had no problem with him either. Now we have a couple new names in the mix and he already toppled one of them, being Jeff Lacy. Now he is onto Manfredo. He basically cleaned up that division. The guy has 19 title defenses and is unbeaten.

A fight with Kessler would be a great match up, and I would give Calzaghe the slight edge and I am pretty sure Vegas odd makers would as well. The problem is that even if he won that fight, people here would still say he hasn't fought anyone. Then even if he beat Hopkins, people would say Hopkins was old. My point is basically that Calzaghe will never get credit in the US no matter what he does. It's too late in his career.

I can't really disagree with anything there, but IMO he's been champ in an era of less than stellar super middleweights (come on..the Sven Ottke era..lol). Solid competition, yes..but he hasn't beaten anyone great. You're right about him not getting credit in the US, but his lack of wanting(or creating) big fights made critics even out of his own countrymen and you can check the british boxing forums and they'll say the same. Although I'm critical of the guy I can't deny the guy's talent, I just wished he would of used it against better opposition even if it meant moving up a weight class or fighting at a catch weight.

^^I thought he looked really good in his fight with Markus Beyer but as they sometimes say, you're only as good as your last fight. If you want to look at it that way, Kessler fought against a rugged guy in Andrade and didn't look overly impressive and Calzaghe fought a decent Sakio Bika and didn't look any better than Kessler did. I say the fight needs to be made to unify the titles and I'd say it's a toss up at this stage. The last guy that Calzaghe fought with Kessler's power/skill was probably Byron Mitchell who dropped Calzaghe hard but on the other hand Kessler hasn't fought anyone near Calzaghe's caliber. You know Kessler wants it, let's just hope Calzaghe does to.

Calzaghe fucked Lacy up I remember that and i REMEMBER him calling out hopkins hahaha anyways i think Calzaghe is gonna fuck Manfredo upo
He called out Hopkins when the Hopkins-Tarver fight was already made and Bernard already announced that he would retire after that. Not long after that, Bernard said he was not retiring and Calzaghe made no mention of his name in his interviews.
