Man, I'm so fuckin' bummed right now. This morning, I had an interview to get a cool job at EA Sports (the video game company) in Redwood City. The interview went really good and I had good vibes comin' from the two dudes that were asking me questions. I was later informed that they were going to decide between me and another dude. I just got a call from them a little while ago basically saying "Sorry, but we chose the other guy. We were very impressed with you, but the other guy was a little bit more confident." What the fuck, I was confident! That shit hurts cuz I was so close. ARRRGH!

Any of y'all ever had a similar situation?

I havent had a coo ass interview like that with a gaming company, but I never seem to get past the dumbass questionaires some companys like best buy/good guys or whatever be havin. I know you have to just tell them what they what to hear and all with them, but shit, I tell it like how I feel. If they like hiring liars, instead of someone truthful and that can be trusted, then fuck em lol.

-On a side note-

I am trying to learn about 3D Animation/ Imaging/ Web Design, but its pretty damn difficult trying to learn it on my own. I mean I rent books from the library, and have some programs to help me out, ie. Maya/Dreamweaver MX 2004, but it isnt the same as if I was learning in a class with some a "real hands-on approach."

what job were u applying for @ EA?

@hobgoblin. its really not that hard. first you have 2 decide what you want 2 do and go with it. im a 3D animator and once you learn one 3D program the rest are basically the same as long as you learn the fundamentals. >> you will get confused if you dont know the meaning of certain things and how the mechinisms behind the button works....you do neeed a good teacher 2 teach you the basics then pick up a program and work with it. i also do websites and graphic design, but you have 2 focus on one and work with it.

@Nasty: They ask stupid shit, like "You say whats on your mind, no matter where you are." "Do you agree with this statement or disagree?" Just pick agree/disagree. Try not to think about interpreting the question/statement in different ways.

@JESTER: Thats true, which is why Im trying to get into 3D Animation, which I can apply to making movies and/or games. Im trying to learn Maya 5 by myself with a book or two. As I'm reading a book, I'll try what I just learned on the program. But as I stated, along with yourself, I need to get into a class or school for this with good credentials, with a friendly environment. Not to mention having a school who can find you a job after you get a Bachelor's Degree.

But, in order for me to go to an animation/gaming school, I need to have money to pay for it. Which is why I'm looking for a job. Constantly calling employers about my applications doesnt get me anywhere, so I have to go in person, and end up failing a dumbass questionaire thats like 120 questions long. And so, in my never-ending struggle to come up with money, I have to try and teach myself from books for now.

you dont have 2 go 2 a special skool 2 get the education....and pay thousands of dollars, most of the teachers @ academy of arts here in frisco are all students looking for work aswell. you should look for the teachers, i go 2 SFSU and our teacher also works @ cogswell and danza (community college with emphasis on 3D ani.) and has worked many years in the industry >> he knows what hes talking about. i been trained in 3Dmax and Lightwave--and worked in XSI awell....once you learn the fundamentals the rest can be worked out.

I was thinking about the Academy of Arts in Frisco, but I dont have money for that either. I could see if I can get financial aid. If I am able to get that, I would more than likely go there. Only real burden would be that we only own one car, so I would be stuck taking the bus to BART and from there to SF, and back everyday. I think I read that they have dorms or whatever, but are only available to rent out to those 21+ and I'm only a year shy of that. I think if I were able to share one with someone, I would probably move out there for school.

I was thinking about Frisco State also, but I need to read up on it and find out as much info as I can.

look in 2 academy of arts....i WAS going there until if found out a lot of bullshit about them, i dont think its worth it. in many cases you get student teachers who cant teach....or dont want you 2 learn as much as them so they hold back--once a job is available they bounce leaving you hanging. Also there BA does not meet the requirments of a real BA in the state of California....they tell you, you are recieving a BA but in acctuallity its like a certificate cuz it doesnt meet the standards of a BA....most people told me they just take your money and your on your own.

talk 2 some students, former and current, maybe things changed since i looked it 2 it.
