Just like I said, since Calzaghe signed to fight Kessler, there is really no where else to go for Taylor but to fight Pavlik.

Jermain Taylor vs. Kelly Pavlik is Close For 9/29

By Mark Vester

It appears that WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (27-0-1, 17 KOs) may actually face off with mandatory challenger Kelly Pavlik (31-0, 28 KOs) on September 29.

After WBO super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe set his sights on a unification showdown with WBA/WBC belt holder Mikkel Kessler, the obvious choice for a profitable opponent for Taylor would be Pavlik.

Boxing writer Dan Rafael was informed by Taylor's promoter, Lou DiBella, and Pavlik's promoter, Bob Arum, that a deal has been agreed upon "in principle" for their fighters to collide on September 29.

"Bob and I basically have a deal. We have no major terms we are fighting over and I believe it will get done," DiBella said. "Bob and I have always been able to get things done. But there are discussions I need to have with my side and with HBO, and the HBO things are not related to money. I haven't fully talked to my fighter or [Taylor adviser] Al Haymon yet, but I know for a fact that Jermain wants the fight and Haymon isn't opposed to it."

The good news, other than the fight coming together, is the event will be televised on HBO, and not pay-per-view, because HBO has offered almost $5 million for the fight. DiBella told Rafael that he's confident the deal will come off.

"HBO came with a fair offer and Bob has postured fairly, so the combination of the two things mean there is no reason a deal shouldn't get done. I believe it will happen in September and after Jermain wins, he will come back and fight again in December," DiBella said. "I think it's a great fight. I love Pavlik. He's earned the shot. He's the best middleweight who is not the champion and he deserves the shot, and Jermain wants to fight him. Jermain is pumped for the fight."

I hope this goes down, Taylor has been getting on my nerves with his most recent campaigns at Jr. Middle, finally they're putting an actual middle weight in front of him since Hopkins!

I'll definitely be pulling for Pavlik, and think he can KO Taylor.

BTW, Calzaghe and Kessler are NOT officially signed. The Calzaghe team has agreet to terms, but Kesslers camp has been quiet. Nothing has been signed yet.

Calzaghe not only agreed to fight Kessler, but he stated that he would go to his backyard to duke it out.
Kessler on the other hand responded by saying that he is willing to fight in the UK.... But he's yet to even accept the fight, WTF is that?
Oh well, if Kessler ducks Calzaghe, Joe might move up to Light Heavyweight and challenge the winner of Winky VS B-Hop....

Back on topic, I'm picking Pavlik to win.
But I'm not predicting how. That depends on Taylor.
(But it might not matter if Pavlik comes out pressuring Taylor like he did Miranda)
If Taylor comes out running from Pavlik then Kelly wins by UD.
If Taylor comes out aggressive then Pavlik wins by KO/TKO.
Either way, I don't see spoon fed Taylor winning in any way shape or form. His ONLY advantage over Pavlik is speed and that won't be enough against an opponent with the talent of Pavlik....

If Kessler ducks Calzaghe he will be a bitch. But I honestly it's simply a matter of the promoters/managers ironing out the details at this point. This will be Kessler's big chance at making a name for himself, not to mention a big pay day. I don't think he's the type of cat to turn that down, but I guess we'll have to see.

I agree with you. Plus, Pavlik really proved that he has a chin. He got nailed by Miranda's best punches and they didn't even phase him! I'll be cheering for Pavlik, I'm sick of Taylors bitch ass!

I hope you're right about Kessler, I really think he's got a shot against Calzaghe. I'm not saying that he will beat him, I'm just saying that his style is the one you want to have against someone like Calzaghe. I'll venture to say that he's got a better shot than even Wright or B-Hop. And that of coarse is due to style match ups, and not necessarily experience and/or quality level.

You're right about Pavlik, everyone praises Taylor's size and power although that's yet to show ever since he became chumpion.
Well none of that matters now for two reasons:
One, he's fighting a big middleweight.
Two, like you said, Pavlik has a great chin.

Personally, I don't dislike Taylor.
But I really dislike his handlers. Luo Dibella is very annoying, almost as annoying as his fans.
Speaking of fans, I remember everyone and their mamma was cheerleading for Taylor in these boards back when he fought B-Hop.
Where are they at now?
Now everyone seems to hate him.
Oh well, I don't blame them. No one likes a paper champ!

I agree with everything you said but I'd like to add to the above. Not only do I dislike his handlers but personally, I don't feel he's improved all that much under Emanuel Steward and it doesn't seem like they mesh well during fight time. It just seemed like he was much more aggressive under Pat Burns and wasn't as reluctant to mix it up. I'd like to see him go back and work with Pat again rather than Manny.

Jermain Taylor: "I Will Expose Kelly Pavlik"

By Mark Vester

WBC/WBO middleweight champ Jermain Taylor (27-0-1) claims to be a new man. No more "Mr. Nice Guy" for the Arkansas native. In a recent interview with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette , Taylor spoke about his new attitude towards critics and opponents.

"It's over. Those days are over," Taylor said. "I can't be nice to them anymore, and don't think I'm going to forget a single person that said something. I'm human."

Taylor is tentatively scheduled to face mandatory challenger Kelly Pavlik (31-0) in the main event of a Sept. 29 HBO telecast. Taylor doesn't seem to be worried about Pavlik's aggressive, power punching style. He plans to trade with Pavilk and give as good as he gets.

"I feel bad for him. I mean, I feel bad, because he does not know who he's getting in the ring with," Taylor said. "If he comes at me, I'm going to take it to him, I'm going to give it all to him. That's the fight the people want. So if that's what they want, you know I'm going to give it to them. I'm never going to back down from anyone. This guy is nothing, and I'm going to expose him. And then what? After I beat him, then what? Because I'm going to beat him, and I'm going to beat him bad. Especially if he comes to fight.

Taylor said he punished Pavlik in the amateurs, and will punish him again as a pro because "Pavlik's heart isn't big enough."

"In the amateurs, I punished him, no problem whatsoever. He has gotten a little better, a little older, a little more mature, but that don't mean nothing. If he comes to fight, and comes to fight hard, his heart isn't big enough."

I'm going with Taylor. I don't think he's going to stand in front of Pavlik long enough for him to get his feet set, and really utilize his power. Pavlik is like a Glen Johnson, he's almost always flat footed, and thats pretty much where all of his power comes from.

If Taylor can use angles and keep Pavlik off balance, then I see Taylor getting the decision. I don't think he will be able to knock Pavlik down or out though, he was getting bombed by Pantera and kept on creeping forward.

Should be a good fight. I'd like to see more aggression from Taylor. He's been really boring me lately.

Pavlik's last fight was one of the most enjoyable i've seen in a while, but his fight before that left me unimpressed.

Taylor by decision if he boxes. If he wants to stand there and trade blows and brawl it out Pavlik will win by KO.

So it looks like HBO will have weekly "24/7" type shows leading up to the fight, just like they did with Mayweather/de la hoya. That's tight cuz I'd really like to see more of Pavlik outside of the ring. The more I see of him the more I like. The same cannot be said about fag-boy though...

:::
:::

Ken Condon of Caesars Atlantic City, whose hostelry is bankrolling Taylor-Pavlik, pronounced it “a very, very hot fight,” and offered as evidence that in the three weeks since the bout was confirmed ticket-buyers have snapped up every available seat on the floor of Boardwalk Hall despite the absence of advertising, or, indeed, a formal announcement.

This is known in the business as a “soft sell,” although the soft price of the $400 top ticket might have something to do with it as well.

HBO, having shelled out pay-per-view numbers for a fight that will be shown on World Championship Boxing, has committed to hyping Taylor-Pavlik as if it were a PPV show, including what Ross Greenburg described as a “24/7-style countdown” that will commence on September 22 and run every night for a week before the fight.

BTW, as of today, Pavlik is a slight favorite to win, which seems crazy to me. I'm sure that will change as it gets closer to the fight.

Personally, I picked Taylor to win because he is a better boxer, he's quicker, faster, more athletic and has a better defense than Pavlik, however I think Pavlik still has a big chance of winning because of his power. Imo, the best chance he has is to try and hurt Taylor early. Basically he needs to just come out and throw with everything he's got in the early rounds and go for the KO or hurt him as much as possible. If not, Taylor will out-box him all night long.

Pavlik is a good fighter, but is flat footed and isn't very mobile. He's going to have a hard time keeping up with Taylor, because of his athleticism...I like Pavlik...but I think he's going to be out-boxed in this one.

Taylor is too smart to stand in front of this guy and trade shots. Which is pretty much the only way I see Pavlik winning this one.
