JBL hands in notice and is set to leave the WWE?
Submitted by Tommykilla on Friday, September 22, 2006 at 12:14 PM EST

It has been reported that John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) has handed in his notice to WWE Officials and is scheduled to make his final appearance on the 10/6 episode of Smackdown according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

JBL is doing very well as an investment banker, and does not want to continue in travelling to the weekly Smackdown tapings.

WWE News: JBL nearly left WWE, but deal worked out to keep him in company

There had been talk for a while that JBL may be leaving WWE because the demands on his time from so many other projects made it difficult for him. While there are reports all over that JBL gave notice, based on a Wrestling Observer report this week, the latest info is that a deal was actually worked out earlier this week to keep him with the company.

PWTorch has learned the primary concern with JBL was travel time getting to Smackdown every Tuesday and back to New York on Wednesdays. The concession that was being discussed this week was allowing JBL to ride in "Air McMahon" (Vince McMahon's plane) after Smackdown so he could fly right home on Tuesday night and be back at work at his other jobs early Wednesday, rather than using most of Wednesday as a travel day.

(Today's Daily Keller Hotline for PWTorch VIP members posted hours ago included info on JBL's schedule concerns and all of the demands on his time, but also noted that he has been enthusiastic about his job with specifics on what he is enjoying about his new role and whom he bases his announcing style on.)

WWE had no made any plans to replace JBL, and they don't consider anyone else at his level at this point and "network-ready." As a result, they have been scrambling to make the logistics work for JBL so he could continue in his role.
