Corporate America (MTV, BET etc.) has brainwashed the viewing audience to the point where they take nothing serious that's not recorded in a top notch studio with all the trimmings.
Therefore, the independent artist who is recording in a home recording studio is now looking mediocre oppose to what's seen on T.V.
All the flashing & bragging about how big your doing it, the amount of money you have etc. Is also a contribution that leads an independent artist directly into failure.
In this business, like many... less is more. The less you say, the more people will be curious as to what it is your trying to pitch. Too many artist today do way too much talking & kill their promotion. Put a camera on a independent rapper and he becomes an infomercial. In my humble opinion that's where the independent game lacks, which is clearly a whole other side of the game: marketing.
Everybody brags about being a hustler and the word get's thrown around loosely, but do to saturation the whole "Hustler" pitch is also played out. The people / fans are no longer impressed with your swag / confidence. They don't want to hear you talk about how fly you are. It's a put up, or shut up era.
Let them hear the music and let them decide what they get out of it. Don't stand there and explain how and how much you love doing it because you'll eventually go off track and promote your album again after they already have it in their hand. Your gonna build it up & they're gonna expect a classic. And perhaps it could be in their mind if your let them soak it up for themselves.
