I think it's coo if they do it in a respectful manner. It don't bother me. Some of my folks don't like it when Spice 1 does that. They like him, they just ain't feelin' it when he does that. They don't even like it when Jacka does it. I keep an open mind & embrace it. Sometimes I let it grow on me. Shaggy don't even have a real accent but he spits entire albums like that. It seems 2 work 4 him.

Jacka came hella sick on that reggae sounding track he had on his first album. I think its coo if its not overdone, i'm not even gonna hate on Lil Kim fr doing it cuz thats probably her best song IMO. You know if a bay cat did a cut based off that original people would be hella jockin.

It's different than biting another rapper's style, I don't know what the fuck y'all talkin bout... If it was a whole album pretending to be Jamaican when they not, it'd be fake, but a few lines or a hook or whatever, it sounds cool to me. Rappers do all kinds of shit with they vocals to keep it interesting, especially in the bay-like Spice 1 or E-40 doin that stutter rap when they obviously don't stutter in real life, etc.-it don't mean they fake, it's just varying the shit and keeping it creative... Like darkman said, I could dig somebody rappin with a Russian or whatever accent for a few lines or a song if it sounds tight. Long as it ain't done to disrespect, I don't see what's the problem.

you can rap in the dancehall style, just don't fake an accent.
Yea I agree with that. I think it sounds tight when it's done in a few lines and what not, but if it's done all throughout an album then it just sounds corny. Also they gotta keep it respectful and not pretend like they Jamaican, and act like they got a real Jamaican accent.

As for Lil Kim, I ain't tryin to defend her or nothing, but she grew up in Brooklyn so I'm sure she got plenty of Jamaican fam, so I don't see nothin wrong with her rappin like that. I don't know if any of you ever kicked it with Jamaican folks before. But if you have, you'll know that Patois stuff (Jamaican slang) can rub off on you sometimes. And Shaggy is Jamaican so I don't see a problem with him doin it either.
