WHY JONATHAN COACHMAN WAS PULLED FROM SMACKDOWN AND HIS NEW NATIONAL GIG

Last week on the PWInsider.com Elite Hotline, I exclusively reported that Jonathan Coachman was in the midst of the interview process for an on-air position with ESPN and that WWE put Mick Foley into his Smackdown color commentary role as they wanted someone who would be able to put the company first and foremost on their list of responsibilities.

Coachman, who sources indicate has been quietly discussing leaving WWE for some time, had been doing additional broadcast work for both the MSG Network and CBS' College sports broadcasts of late.

PWInsider.com can confirm Coachman has been hired by ESPN as an anchor. There's no word on when Coachman will debut for the cable sports network, but internally, WWE sources believe Coachman will be finishing up shortly, if he isn't done already with the company.

Coachman had been with WWE since December 1999, working as an announcer and on-air heel persona. Prior to his work with WWF/E, Coachman was a sports writer and sports anchor in his native Kansas.

WWE has some real shitty announcing up and down the board except for RAW. I love how the writers incorperate clowning the shit out of guys when they are leaving the company. I bet if coach ever makes it big he will never show his face of affialiate himself with wrestling ever again

Anyone who watched wrestling from the 1980's knows who this is. When he left wrestling he didn't even put WWF on his resume.

^I dont think styles around anymore, i think him and taz walked a couple of weeks ago. IDK i dont watch ECW that much but the last time i watched it the announcing was awful

Dave Nagle, a representative of ESPN, issued the following statement to SLAM! Sports to put an end to the rumors: "all I can say is that these 'rumors' are untrue...we do not have a signed deal. There is nothing more to say." Rumors regarding Coachman's departure began soon after Mick Foley replaced Coachman as the SmackDown color commentator at the Backlash pay-per-view two weeks ago. Internet reports started circulating and they said that Coachman had signed a contract with ESPN for an anchor position.

Foley is the shit no matter what he does IMO... I watch Smackdown once in a while now just because he's on the show. I'm looking forward to them including him in some storylines again, even if it's just some stupid shit like Lawler does to defend a broad or something.
