Ipods and mp3s are in, and CDs are making their new living as coasters. Filesharing programs and torrent sites are getting more popular and many CD stores from the last decade are memories. Is it naive to think new artists coming into this environment can fully support themselves off the already late-blossoming northwest hip-hop scene. "Sicill" aka Si Aura (From Darxiide) TACOMA

This isn't something that's restricted to just the Northwest; it's a worldwide factor. Why buy when you can download, right? Downloading will be the only source of getting music soon, which means that we'll have to pay for everything, just like buying a CD from a store. I guess what I'm trying to say is.... download all the shit you can get your hands on while you still have the chance.

ANOTHER THING IS THE NORTHWEST HASN'T HAD A 50CENT,SNOOP DOG,OR A T.I YET... SIR-MIX-A-LOT CAME AND WENT LIKE IN 92 I BELIEVE AND THATS IT. WE HAVE A LOT OF RESPECTED ARTIST ON THE UNDERGROUND SCENE BUT THATS IT. PRODUCTION WISE WE HAVE HELPED ARTIST LIKE 50CENT,G-UNIT,MAC DRE,E-40,ETC.. SHAPE THERE SOUND BUT WE HAVE NO SOUND OR MAJOR ARTIST... WE HAVE YET TO BREAK INDUSTRY SURFACE. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT SHIT LIKE FUCK MAINSTREAM CAUSE THATS ALL BULLSHIT. IF MAINSTREAM WAS FUCKING WITH YOU,YOU WOULD BE FUCKING WITH MAINSTREAM. CATS JUST NEED TO BELIEVE IN THERE MUSIC,STAY HUMBLE,AND PUSH A HARD LINE. I TRUTHFULLY BELIEVE THE NORTHWEST IS THE NEXT TO SHINE.

hrm.. yeah i feel u LStar but seriously.. who listens to TI and 50.. not even snoop and i grew up as a snoop fan since the first.

i dont have TV or listen to popular radio.. so there is no mainstream in my eyes.

i tried to make a "jerk" style song for a contest and i had to look it up on youtube cuz i never heard it before that.. lol ive made hundreds of songs, and havent seen mainstream music in years.. startin to get outta touch with the masses, but honestly im kinda proud of it

i hope the NW can do it.. but not by being gay and stereotypical

I KNOW BRO LOL... THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO GET ACROSS WAS WE NEVER HAD ARE OWN BIG STAR. I WOULDN'T CONSIDER COOL NUTZ A BIG STAR BUT HE HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST ONE SINCE SIR-MIX-A-LOT. THATS WHY I FEEL WE HAVE ALL THE LEG ROOM FOR SUCCESS RIGHT NOW.. CALI HAS HAD THERE RUN.. EAST COAST HAD THERES AND DOWN SOUTH.. PEOPLE ARE GETTING TIRED OF HEARING THE SAME O SHIT.. ALL IT TAKES IS ONE ARTIST TO BREAK THE SURFACE AND THE REST WILL FALL THREW IT'S JUST UP TO US TO DO SOMETHING WITH IT WHEN IT DOES..

I hope people that make good music make it. I think its easier if you have an established name/fanbase.....etc. Its harder if you dont. I feel the environment right now is pretty hard to even get heard. As I mentioned in another thread, their used to be better radio support as well as some dj's pushing these in clubs.

I Kinda agree with the NW has leg room... talent is definitely there. But best way to do things right now is to break the regional barriers. That way your name can get out and also be on other projects in different areas. As for mainstream... its always in trend/fad... as mentioned.. gangsta rap, then lyricalism.. now it is/have been club music which is more about the sound that the lyrics.

Is it possible.. yes. its it difficult..yup. Like I said in the other thread too, it was trial and error with underground music unless you were familiar with the artists. Now a days... people are quick to check online like myspace and what not to see if people are good. The hustle game has to be on point.. in the streets, online, and on stage.

Unity. agreed its kind of difficult to unify so many people out here hating on each other., . somehow a buzz needs to be created though
. Rappers makin noise need to fuck wit eachother on a music level an also just on some kick it shit sometimes too. show these people out here what it is.
ultimate goal in makin it is to gain fans aint it?

I've noticed in my short time of networkin wit my nw folks that there is a lot of politics basically goin on. Talent is definitly in the Dub-A but comraderie really isn't between all rappers. Sad to see really cuz something would definitly pop if alot of ppl united.

Besides if the artists are on the same page and got the same drive to make it, isn't that the type of people you want in ur circle?

I GUESS EVERYTHING IS SAID JUST FLEW OVER YOUR HEAD.. AND TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THAT BUY THERE SHIT.. IF YOU WOULD OF READ WHAT I POSTED I SAID THE NORTHWEST HASN'T HAD THERE SUPER BIG MEGA STAR YET. THE EAST COAST HAS HAD MANY LIKE A 50CENT ... CALI HAS HAD MANY LIKE A SNOOP DOG AND SO HAS THE SOUTH SINCE 2000(T.I).... I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A FEW ARTIST AT LEAST REACH TECH-9 STATUS. HE'S UNDERGROUND BUT HAS A STUPID CRAZY FOLLOWING... ALL WE ARE KNOWN FOR IS BREEDING DOPE PRODUCERS EVERYBODY WANTS TO FUCK WITH.. WE NEED TO START GETTING ARE ARTIST OUT THERE ON THE SAME LEVEL OR MAYBE EVEN HIGHER
