really easy, once you get all connected right and understand a few things like changing midi channels its all abreeze I have an mpc 3000.If you can afford an mpc4000 go for that its worth it( mv8000 is cool to but It aint an mp . Second choice is mpc 3000, dont get a 1000,if this is your price range instead find a used mpc60II you can convert to 3000 or dope as is or a mpc 2000xl i wouldnt get the regular mpc2000.I know alot of mpc users AND BRUCE FORAT AT FORAT.COM WILL TELL YOU THE SAME i been in his shop choppin it up a few times, if anybody knows about drum machines he is the man.he repairs and customizes for everyone such as battlecat, dr dre, dj quik, jelly roll

it really depends on you as the user...with any equipment theres going to be a learning curve. The first drum machine i ever used was my friend's mpc 3000. i made a few drum patterns but everything else was difficult for me because i got a short attention span. personally it was too many screens and shit that i had to go through just to get shit done. i prefer machines where i can pull it out the box and make music...but im not trying to detour you from the mpcs. if you have the patience those are dope ass machines. its basically an entire studio in one unit. i have also tried the mpc 2000xl...for some reason that one seemed a little bit more user friendly, however i did not spend nearly as much time on it as i did the 3000 version

be cause i said.... just kidding
not as many outputs for 1
I knew people who tried it and said the pads response were diff( im not sure)
but for the price of a new one you can get a used 2000xl, or a mpc 60 blown to a 3000 and these 2 were roger linn designed.Ive had friends , or Ive had my hands on nearly every drum machine made( no verona, or electro-drum or jo mox and shit like that ) im just talkin the main ones
also isnt there only midi in and out? that and the outputs is reason enough

the pads are the same to me, i own neither one but i've messed around with both for a while, im just tryna get all the info i can because in the next month or sooner ill will be buying a MPC 1000 or 2000xl, money is really my reason for considering the 1000, but if its really that serious i'll just go broke and go back to skool with no new skool clothes for the 2000xl haha

Ive seen mpc 2000xl for $500. and thats cheaper then the 1000.are you gonna midi up some keyboards and modules, is 4 outputs enough? go to www.sonicstate.com then click on synth site section then under manufactures hit akai and it list all gear hit mpc2000xl then next to the picture hit reviews, then big page if you want all reviews on one page. there is the best feedback right there user reviews

shit if you are just getting started I wouldn't blow my wad on an MPC, you are still gonna have to blow alot more loot on sample CDs and shit like that. as far as I know those things don't come with that stuff right out the box.

I'm a software guy cuz thats what i learned first, I definatly wouldn't mind a MPC4000 though My homeboy has one and he makes nice shit with it. You can do the same shit with Reason though, that MPC4000 has one hell of a nice sound engine though. you will end up spending close to the same amount of cash for a software setup though. You'll need software 300-500 bucks, audio interface 100-500 bucks for a decent one, Midi controller 100-300 bucks, Monitors 200-1000 for a decent set (you'll need these for you MPC too) Computer if you don't have one with enough juice to support these kind of apps. you'll end up dropping a couple Gs on a soft set up too from scratch.

fuck that buy an mpc, it is what the doctor ordered.i see your point, but if beat making aint for him the mpc will have better resale value then a computer. As far as blowing money on sample c.ds, why? if you into sampling then you gonna need c.d.s or sample from vinyl, Ive bought but never used the sample c.d.s, I sample everything from my vinyl collection or old c.ds, computers take away from the real joy of making beats. Reason and a computer is not gonna do the same as an mpc--period...a computer may do things an mpc cant, but the sequencer on the mpc is unlike any other. If you a computer wiz you may be able to tweak it but the mpc is super easy and very user friendly and to someone new at making beats thats what the doctor ordered.plus the sounds of your samples are not super digital like computers.

i think the easiet shit for a begginer is probably the Korg Triton.....only took me a day to learn how to make a slap on that shit.....granted i was already makin beats wit Software for about 3 years so i had some experiance but from my point of view its simple as hell to jus MAKE A BEAT....which is what a lotta cats want.....to hear a result....now for actually PRODUCING you gonna have to learn a lotta shit and work wit many different pieces of equipment and get the feel of what works best for you to make a quality production...im still learning myself......

the second part is musical talent and learning ability....some cats have one or the other or niether.....ive gone through the process of makin a simple ass beat on fruity loops wit some cats a dozen times and they jus dont get it.....i figured out the program on my own and i can make slaps wit it so other cats think they can jus jump on it and do the same but if they have no musical talent and dont have the capacity in thier brains to store a lotta new info they cant do shit no matter how many times i explain it to em.....

if you gonna ask someone you know who makes tight beats to help you....bare in mind that its very frustrating to try to TEACH someone to make music.....so dont be surprised if they get annoyed easily or seem impatiant cuz i know thas how i get......like i said i learned everything on my own cuz i really wanted ta do it and i didnt have anyone to teach me shit....

i agree wit you somehwat but you wrong about the super digital sound of computers.....youd be surprised at how many beats were made completely on comps and sound great....remember an mpc is a computer too....jus dedicated towards beat making only.....
